I Thank thank all for the messages,inside I'm in bits .It took quite a bashing and the thick sheet over it stopped all the usual scrapes but it must have put bad stress on the frame as it sprang back when the weight of the car was removed.I am worried about the repairer or assessor just replacing the stuff that looks damaged because I would still Know what has happened to the chassis and I would not feel safe on it.It does not look twisted but it must have weakened it.I could not sell it without being honest no matter whether it's recorded or not.I cannot see them wanting to renew the frame so what my options are I don't know.It was just like the one on the Haynes manual and I felt kind of responsible to keep it that way.
I keep posted of any news .

if thats the case, it will most likely be a cat c write off, uneconomical repair.
getting hold of another frame and rebuilding the bike is an option, you would have to buy the bike back off the insurance company first. my r-reg with 33k on the clock was valued at 1600 by my insurance company after i had my accident. go over the frame very closely and highlight anything that wasn't there before, check all the fairing brackets, front subframe is made out of swiss cheese. the good news is it should be sorted very quickly as theres no issue of blame. save and print adverts of similar condition firestorms, the more expensive the better, as this will aid you when they try to low ball you on the value of your bike....good luck dude

Ouch!! From your pics it looks like the front end was directly clobbered, so make sure the headstock area of the frame, forks and wheel are thoroughly checked over.

i really think from the age of 65 people should have to do a course every few years to determine if they are fit to drive. although i might change my mind in say 25yrs time........

When you reach a certain age now with truck driving you have to resit medicals and have to do so much training over 5 years. It's all a money making scam but I can certainly see the point to have it in place for the older drivers.

I think there is a system like that in place already not sure of the age it starts though. But it's not just old folks it all drivers. I mean look at the way they drive in the east end I don't think half of them have a UK license. Ant then you have the morons that are incapable of driving because they are. well, morons.

But as CK said it's would just turn into an extra way to make money the same way the bike test is broken down these days.

A Bandit 1300 turned up today so I have wheels till it,s sorted. There is some dings on the frame rails so maybe I won't see it again.I definitely prefer the v twin over a four now which feels very mundane.I miss it bad already.

Were the police involved? as there has been a change in the law because of a fatality in my home town caused by an elderly driver that the police were aware was a danger but couldn't immediately get them off the road.

When I worked in ophthalmology dept in hospital there were elderly folk coming in to see doctors about their cataracts and had driven in basically blind.

No police because no one was hurt and they just don't care about bikers.My bike stopped the car hitting the house so I hope the insurance appreciate that when they cough up.Loads of old people driving around here , they have too much money ,most of them have been useless drivers all their lives and they and their families know they shouldn't be behind the wheel.But in these parts you have had it without transport, it,s like being stuck out in the middle of a desert.Now I'll describe what it's like without my Storm.Mine was fully sorted and like a surgical instrument,the 1250 Bandit to be kind is a piece of shite.The motor is lovely the rest not.

If some one is that incompetent at manoeuvres then the roads we pay a ridiculous amount to use should be free from dangers like these, imagine if it failed to stop the car at a round about it junction and plowed through your spine

Did you report it to the police as in the case of the Cassie I linked to earlier, the elderly driver "Three days earlier (before killing the school girl Cassie) , Mr Horsfall failed a police eye test when he drove into the exit of a petrol station."

The law changed to give the police the power to strip a person's driving licence if there's an indication that they aren't fit to drive. After your incident maybe you could remind police of that! And also mention it in your communications with their insurance company.

I don't think the Police would be interested as it on your own property and knowone was injured. It's probably too late now anyway unless they are called to the scene when it happens.

As far as people like that driving goes, if indeed they are medically unfit to drive (this incident sounds like a slip of the foot) out in the middle of the sticks there is no other transport. Buses are few and far between. Local community services don't get the subsidisation to take peole shopping, out on trips, down to the post office etc. Old folks in the countryside are some of the worst offenders for driving offences. When I lived in a village the amount of people who would drink drive back from the local pub or village hall was outrageous, they would drive down the road at stupidly low speeds and couldn't keep a straight line.

A car is the only form of independence these people get otherwise you become a prisoner in your own home. I totally agree with what Seb says if she's medically unfit, but these things tend to go unnoticed. It's different when in a city where there are a lots of old bill, cctv etc. In some of these places your lucky to have a proper local copper. 9 times out of 10 they will just get a community officer who you rarely see and would never see them at night to catch people driving back form the pub at night down the country lanes.

As this incident is on your own property which insurance covers it. Would it be your house insurance or vehicle insurance. I suppose it would be a mix of both What a nightmare!
