bigspanishmarty wrote:i might be wrong player but if the issue is the wheel being to wide for the standard swingarm, why would you need spacers, maybe if the spacers were fitted to the spondon swingarm, but i can't see the point in that, why go to all the trouble of building a made to measure super strong swingarm thats a work of art and then choose a dymag wheel thats not very wide and needs spacers to fit....it doesn't make sense. as usual i might be wrong, if anyones interested in the wheels i'd contact the seller and ask for the wheel dimensions before bidding....
this is where you need yeti's input......

I think if there was a chance of a bargain then the eBay thread frenzy certainly kills it off, more so if someone does a bit of looking around (like the possible Moriwaki seat scenario), realises it's causing a bit of excitement and then decides to cash in at the expense of others.. I can see why Ian is upset with it all with this in mind.

The thing with this thread is that the bits that get listed by people are the bits they are not interested in for themselves.. if it was then I am sure they would NOT list them in the hope of getting themselves a bargain. All it does is ruin the chance of a bargain for others. It's been said before in the past at the beginning of this thread (cupasoop I think it was) that we all have an ability to search for things, we just have to put the time in to find the bargains ourselves...

I would prefer it to be a " can you keep an eye out for me please" thread.. for bits people are desperate to find and having trouble finding.. and only those items put into the thread

It is close to me not bothering to look through ebay etc and wait for it to be flagged up on here and then watch myself bid against others here and then probably pay over the odds for an item that half the people wouldn't even be searching for..

I know I am not much of a post kind of guy and don't say a lot but felt this way about this thread for a while.. just wanted to get it off my chest.. not that it matters but just makes me feel better.
+ 1 on all said Gl s r...

Some time ago a thread was started along the lines of ''I'm bidding on this e-bay Item please don't bid against me I've got first dibs '' kind of thing...

It didn't run for too long IIRC.

I think, as Marty started this thread after asking permission IIRC he should start a new thread in general chat with a vote as to weather the E-bay thread stays or goes.

At the end of the day we can all search for bargains ourselves & it seems to be a general consensus that e-bay is too dear these days anyway.

Time to quit Marty ?

i do have mixed feelings about this thread, i understand certain members concerns, and in a couple of very recent posts i've stated that if admin wish to close this thread i would argue against their decision, on the other hand i think its important to remember that members have been helped by this thread also, and this includes myself, if ckennedy hadn't have posted about the two brothers system it would not be in my posession now. i still believe that there will always be many people fighting it out for the same items on ebay, most of these people would be forum members but there will also be plenty of non forum members bidding on the same items. as firestorm items become harder to find prices will inherently go up. and as we are all chasing mori this or sondon that its never going to be cheap. i honestly don't think prices are being driven up soley by this forum. i think prices of the run of the mill items have stayed the same, and if they have gone up, i'd say thats because of there being less firestorms being crashed/dismantled and breakers are pushing up the prices. high end items will always be expensive if they go the full distance at auction, hence ian's tactics of offering a price to end the auction early. it seems to me the people that are grumbling are the members seeking the rarer items.
and mac its not up to me to quit as you put it. thats up to admin to decide, if they wish to have a vote then so be it, if it does close it will be a shame, as the second highest thread that this forum has possibly seen, i believe its done alot more good than bad.
if the thread closes it will be interesting to monitor prices, my guess is they wont change and be any lower.
so its over to admin...

For me it's been good and bad, more good than bad mind, would be shame to see it banished. Just set the user post and view limit

That's what I would do as a compromise. If the sales and wants section was only seen by those with a higher post count, say 100+ So keeping it within established forum members only. It then not only cuts out the dealers possibly keeping an eye on things, but on a side note, also stops the sales and wants section being abused by people that come on here just to sell something. A 10 post minimum is a joke and pointless. It may be a coincidence but It's funny how that mori item got taken down off ebay as soon as we started mentioning making false bids and having a wind up with the seller.

Also those that join and stay quiet in the background and don't get involved. IIRC the sales and wants section can still be viewed even without the minimum posts. I don't even think they have to be registered. It should be seen by registered members only with a higher minimum post count.

If people come on here just with the intention of selling something and using us a extension to their business then they have to get involved first by posting and then we have a rough idea as buyers what kind of person they are first. That gives forum members a bit of added security and trustworthiness as the seller has built up a reputation first. How many times have we had someone join and then after their first couple of posts, why cant I sell something. So then it's post a bit of crap just to get the 10 post count. Totally pointless.

Good forum i joined was 50 post (post did not count in general post) after that you can post things up for sale. If you wanted to post things for sale right away then you had to donate towards the up keep of the site. It works well

May be of some use to someone.

Having looked at some images they could well be -

In this open and free market I decided to contact the seller about the wheels. I gave him my number and he called me back. Turns out he lives just along the road from my in-laws (probably 200 meters)
I was meant to be going to see them today but its the anniversary of the day I met the Mrs so we are going out for the day instead.

Going to the in-laws tomorrow for Sunday lunch so if the wheels are not bent or buckled a deal will be getting done.

I do think having a post limit to view and post would be the best solution to the problems that have cropped up
