exhaust packing

Post by edds11 »

Guy's, question for anyone, fitted a pipe so it is single sided, did this last year, sounded meaty but not too loud. I went for a good 200 miler ride with my brother and gave it a rather good spanking, problem is it is now a lot louder than it was, so I've decided to repack it and the question is, do I wrap it tight or loose to make it quieter?

pack it tightly with bubblewrap in a good quality cardboard box that should keep it quiet, Use Royal Mail registered post. Hope this answers your question satisfactorialy :D

Good question

From the people who make the packing for Arata and I think Akropovic use the same.
Attention: Do not wrap to tight or push to hard but make sure that no empty space is left.
After the muffler is completetly filled, you must be able to push the packing material about one inch more into the can. Never pack to tight! Now mount the cap and seal the muffler with heat-resistant silicone.

Firm but not hard , you want good coverage but not like concrete .
I find using piano wire to secure it in place works well .

i was reading somewhere on the net that for oval cans loose type packing is the best to use and for round ones its best to use the roll type

Yoshimura recommend you use a loose packing type and pack it down into the can with a tool, i posted the vid a few weeks ago if i can find the yoshimura video i will re link it
