Exhaust swap

Spent all day today swapping my exhaust from the aftermarket Remus can to the standard can. Mainly because I prefer the look I think, but also because I read somewhere that it's supposed to give more low down power with that Honda servo / exhaust valve thing.

Anyway what a wombles pain in the butt that was, I had to pretty much strip the bike to the subframe to get at it, and even then it was quite tight. Connecting the servo / valve is a pain too, as it doesn't have any markings to say which of the 2 cables goes to which side of the little wheel thing. Took a guess and I am hoping it's right.

Bike runs about the same I would say with the exhaust on, but I do really think it sounds better. It sounds deeper, with more of a roar and popping sounds. I think I might leave it on and sell the Remus can.

So then votes, first is the Remus and second is the standard can. Videos are fairly short and only at idle, but you sort of get the idea. To me it sounds as though the Remus can is 'smoother' and a more consistent noise, whereas the standard can sounds a little raspy and I can hear the popping a little more.

You have had quite a mechanically challenging day today.

I prefer the looks of the standard for sure. I prefer the tickover sound of the Remus, but then when you flicked the throttle on the standard it sounded good, a nice raspy sound Not as good as a big V's twin outlets though.

Need to remove the DB killer from the Remus to get the full sound. Those Scorpions you sold me the other year sound really sweet with the DB killers removed. I only fit them for the Mot.

To be honest, it doesn't make a difference. I did have it out for a while, and it's just about the same.

Not sure how the baffle actually works on it, it's just a long straight pipe with an opening at both ends, so don't see how it is redirecting any flow when it's in.

good point about the db killer, should have video'd it taken out before swapping them over, i do like the rasp of the standard can, but you didn't blip the throttle with the remus so its hard to say. also was the vid of the remus when the bike was cold/choke on, auto choke that is....?

Yeah the Remus video is with the choke on, and blipping the throttle with it didn't really rasp or pop, it just made a louder version of what you hear. As I say, it was a very smooth noise.

Im surprised at how raspy the standard can actually is.

Did Honda do a factory option after market exhaust for this model that made use of the servo like Suzuki did with the Gixxer Yosimura one

Might be worth while trying to track one down on ebay if you see one cheap that should have the low down shove of the standard with the typical power gains of an open can when its on full song

Ahhh, I may have an explanation for it.

Just been watching Youtube videos for sound of standard exhaust, and found this. He drills out the baffles, see at 2:48:

So I went back to the garage and took a picture down mine, and this is what I found:



So im guessing the last guy drilled this baffle before fitting the Remus, explains why it sounds like it does

deffo got a higher pitch to it.....
best of both worlds, standard look with racey sound, whats with those old rear indicators on that fellas bike.....
