Just got some new CCT's
Just got two new CCT's that are brand new but the bit that sticks out of the end is fully pushed in with the little point bit sticking out of the end, is there a way two get it out or is this just normal?
Can they be pushed in by hand or what i have never seen one before but this looks like to me what they would look like if they were ready to be binned?
Any help will be great
Cheers guys

They come like that so you can fit them first, then you remove the locking tool in the threaded end which releases the spring tension. The plunger then is pushed up against the cam chain which gives you the correct tension required.
BEWARE to fit these is not a matter of taking the CCTs out and fitting new, the engine needs to be set in the correct position (crankshaft position) or otherwise you risk the cam chain jumping off the camshafts

I have only had the bike a couple of weeks so i dont know what the engine should sound like really. PLease help

I think you would know if it had gone, cos
1. The bike 9 times out of 10 would not be running after.
2. It would sound like nuts and bolts rattling about.
3. you wouldnt want to even turn the key after hearing it!
My mates front went and he sh1t himself, so bad he didnt ride it back home, although the garage said he could
I aint sure what your hearing there but it dont sound like CTT probs. Then again i changed both mine, and the sound that were buggin me is still there, but at least i know its not them now
(shims me thinks now)

A shot CCT sounds like the camchain is slapping around inside the engine unrestrained. It sounds terminal.
If the one you have has released when you took out the locking tab, just get a fine screwdriver and put it down inside the body of the CCT, turn it clockwise to retract the plunger back to its original position. Hold it with your hand and re insert the locking tab.
When you pull in the clutch lever does the "whirling" noise go away when in neutral? Is the noise there when the engine is hot as well as cold?
Very much doubt it's the CCT, and more likely to be a noise from the gearbox. What weight oil is in it (not vital to know, just handy)? What mileage on the clock?
See if you can track the noise to the left or right of the bike.

Thanks for all the help, it did make the whirling noise when the engine was cold so it could have been that. I have turned them back and one has pulled back inside but the other one wont turn like it is jammed open, ANY IDEAS?. Sorry for the questions i am sure every time a new guy comes on here you get shed loads of questions about CCT's. Oh it has just under 13500 miles onit, i think this is about average for them to be changed isnt it becasue they have never been done and as for the oil not sure what it is but it is only a couple of weeks old as it got done just before i got the bike. What difference does the side the noise is coming from make? Maybe i am just being paranoid because i am use to smooth 4's not noisy twins, anyone else find this when they got there storm???

you can try putting a little pressure on the shaft as you turn it it may have come out past the end of the threaded area....................
the whirling noise is caused by the primary drive gear being straight cut all storms do it but some are loader than others it gets quieter when you pull in the clutch because you take the load off the gear it can also get quieter as the motor heats up
all part of the charm of the VTR

Whatt!!!I have turned them back and one has pulled back inside but the other one wont turn like it is jammed open, ANY IDEAS?.
Okay, if I am understanding you right. You have the tensioners attached to the bike. You have unscrewed the little retraction screw inside the tensioner. Now it wont spring back to it's original position.
If I've understood you correctly you are buggered

The only thing to do now is to take the cam cover casings off and realign the timing.
Don't turn the engine over
Tell me if I have misunderstood and then explain exactly where you are at at the moment and we'll see what we can do.

OK. then Pete, at least you've done your best mate! you can't do more that thatPete.L wrote:Chris
yes I did but with time moving on I thought he had gone from pulling the little Honda clip out of a new tensioner to talking about a bit of clutch whirr and then onto unscrewing the auto adjust screw(retraction screw) in the tensioner.
Lost!!!!
I haven't a fking clue
