Tried it with a bit of foam between the mount and the crash bung, and a piece between the mount and the camera, and the picture quality is shocking. Makes it go really blurry once the revs get over 4k.

Also tried it with a crappy mic I found fixed under the rear seat pointed toward the exhaust. Sounds OK but the mic is crap so sounds tinny and distorted as it keeps going from stereo to mono. New mic should be here tomorrow.

Geo, where do you mount your mic? Where is good to get good engine noise other than under rear seat?

I have the mike set up in my hat but it still gets a lot of wind noise.

When mounting it to the bike, it'll be nearly impossible to get ris of vibes without out some kind of proper damping system. I haven't tried the mount under the seat, but thought that might be good. I'd stick it in a cleaning sponge though.

Try a furry microphone like this

A Rycote, windjammer, windstopper, softie or whatever you want to call it will help with (you guessed it) wind noise but not vibrations. The sponge is a good idea. But ideally you need the mic mounted in some kind of suspension frame.
