CCT FAILURE

Started the beast this afternoon to go for a blast and heard a strange noise. Went straight to the local bike shop who told me what i thought. CCT on the way out. Seems i heard it just in time.
£92 for the parts alone. 3/4 of an hour labour.
Already checked on David Silver site £56 for the parts.
If it's not 1 thing it's another.

ain't that always the case..............wheel bearings turned into needing cush drive rubbers, new brake pads, chain due to............oh and the dishwashers on the blink, guarentee just run out..........
look on the bright side............still alive and healthy.

I'm confused, all the info on here goes on about taking half the bike apart and taking 4 hours to change the ccts. How can a professional mechanic do it in 3/4 of an hour? ( i know thats just for one)

What do they do differently that saves all the time? Do they just quote you for whipping one out and hoping the chain dosnt jump?

Cupa when i was at the garage he said 45 minutes work. Thing is if they fit them and they go ping shortly afterwards you must have some come back on them. I will get the CCT's and then see what i do.

Depends which one it is mate.
The rear can be done without taking anything apart, its the front that needs tank, airbox, carbs etc off
And even then its only if they've just gone and not jumped a tooth. If that happens its time to take the heads off!!! :?

Nah mate they are a good garage. Aye Gee's is their name. Used to be an butt place but under new management now. Head mech is called Michael. top bloke. Use to race VTR's.

Hi Egg,

Can you describe the sound you heard? I'm not sure I'd hear it over my exhausts (silly loud) but would be useful to know what to listen out for.

Is that Aye Gee on the shooter's hill road?

Hush yes it is the one on shooters hill road under new management and alot better. As for the noise it sounds like something slapping metal on metal. Not sure how far gone they are and don't want to find out!!!!!!
I put a long screw driver on each of them and there is 2 different sounds rear 1 is worse than front 1.

Sorry to sound dumb (I am a fairly new rider), but what are CCT's. I have a rumble / rattle that dissapears when the clutch os pulled in. Do I have anything to be concerned about?
Who else but the self, can be master of the self. With self well controlled another master is hard to find!

Sounds like it's just a bit of clutch basket rumble from your discription. Nothing to worry about, quite common.

CCT's are cam chain tensioners, Delicate little blighters who have a habit of going pop every now and then. If you ever hear a loud ratttle from the top end snap in the clutch and hit the kill switch QUICKLY!!!

And the little buggers can go anytime !!! Mine replaced under wrranty after just a few thousand miles !!!! :?
