Rear shock question...
Rear shock question...
As I am after a new read shock for my bike I have noticed that it is rather hard to get your hands on one for the storm. Does anyone know if there are any of bike model shocks that would bolt onto the storm? Even if a small modification is required.
I did have a quick look to see if something like this has been asked but I could not find one at a glance.

Re: Rear shock question...
The only thing I know of is one of the guys on the US board makes adapters so you can use, I believe, an F4 shock.
Other than than there is no easy way to retrofit another shock into this bike as the shock is longer than most other bikes.

That's what I thought. Thank you for the reply. My search continues

Re: Rear shock question...
I don't think there is any alternative that will fit straight on. I was looking into this a while back and was thinking of finding something that would fit with a little modification. Maybe extending the threaded part at the top, making a new bracket. I was keeping an eye on a an R1 Ohlins which is 300mm eye to eye and the Firestorm is 346mm eye to eye. The problem I came up with was the remote reservoir as it's fixed and would get in the way of the Battery so I would have had to move that.
Is the spring length that important, is it more important that the total length eye to eye is correct.
surly if one could find something close then it's just a case of extending the top bracket.

Re: Rear shock question...
Sounds like sensible logic to me that it would just be a case of extending it. Big problem is I don't want to be spending 700quid for a new shock.
Re: Rear shock question...
No nor do I. That's why I was looking at alternatives. That R1 shock I was watching went for IIR £260 and was mint. If that was a Firestorm Ohlins it would have been double that.I don't want to be spending 700quid for a new shock.

Re: Rear shock question...
Am looking at shocks too.
Ohlins £986
Maxton £580+vat (external remote reservoir)
Wp about 650
Penske about 650
Nitro about 540
Many of these have more basic options without remote reservoir for about 380 to 430.
Hagon about 300.
Am in talks with Maxton.
