Yamaha Claims It Will “Change the Sport Motorcycle World” on

Post by 8541Hawk »

In the now time-honored tradition of teaser videos, Yamaha has produced the following vid in advance of unveiling a new model on June 11. In the text accompanying the video, which is also printed below, Yamaha claims the bike is “a new kind of brutal animal, which is about to change the sport motorcycle world.”

Of course, we have come to expect a large dose of hyperbole when new models emerge, and the video tells us nothing more than the new bike will have upright ergonomics (evident from the rider’s position). We have long advocated upright ergos (see our 2006 discussion here, and our more recent comments on the strengthening trend).

Aside from the seating position, nothing else is revealed at this point. It should be noted that Yamaha has broken new ground in the past (their lead in the development of four-stroke motocross bikes beginning with the YZ400 comes to mind), so it is within the realm of possibility that there is something groundbreaking here, as well. We suspect, however, that this new model will be an upright sport bike, not unlike other nakeds, featuring some styling exercises designed to appeal to younger, independent thinkers similar to those targeted by the Bolt. We will all find out on June 11. Here is the text from Yamaha, followed by the video:

While some onlookers may see Japan just as a traditional and respectful society where conformity is the norm, behind this stereotypical image lies a vibrant sub-culture where new fashions and ideas are constantly emerging.

From the spectacle of drift racing through to the insanity of Japanese speedway, the other side of Japanese society has been responsible for some wild and wonderful trends.

The same creative forces that drive the darker and unconventional side of Japan now have created a new kind of brutal animal, which is about to change the sport motorcycle world.

A flat plane triple......that'll be a good trick, let's see if they can make it work.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Let's see, either they are simply using marketing jargon to re-christen a normal 120-degree crank (nothing new there), or they will use some form of counterbalancer to bring balance to what is esentially an R1 crank with a cylinder lobbed off..... NO magic there (can't fool physics).....while both could certainly be made to work very well, neither is the Second Coming (as they apparently would have us believe)........

yeh, zzzzz lol ducati did it first iirc.
scarificial cylinder.

only thing is, for a decent boost, the sacrificial pot has to be bigger than the power pots, otherwise it only draws the same amount of air as they do.
so for a 1 bar boost, it would have to be 2x the cc of the firing cylinder..... and if theres 2 firing cylinders, it would have to be 4x lol... thats a fkin big piston - and it would sap a lot of power to drive it.

it can be done (has been done)
personally i think the big breakthroughs are going to be in fuel technology not engines.

i want 100% ethanol at the pumps. burn as much as you want and make steam.... then pull over somewhere nice and get pished on it as well
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

There was talks of it awhile ago if they have gone with a Triple i would expect them to have larger than 1000cc as the racing rules would allow them to run a slightly bigger CC given the deficit

Not sure if its printed but it was mentioned in superbikes a while ago but don't think they had an answer as to what size triple you can race in the litre class, Currently 1200cc Twins and as we know 1000CC fours but not sure with out digging what if anything is in stone for a three cylinder machine :confused

Would be nice to see something other than an Aprilia or Kwak twatting it down the straight in superbikes
