Hooray - I have a 'Storm

Post by adstar »

Hey all,

After getting a lovely insurance cheque I went off bike shopping. Bought a silver S reg 'Storm.

8200miles, standard with a carbon hugger, history etc, £2500...

I think I got a good deal. Had it just over a week now and its good fun - I really understand what they mean about them being a 'fun' bike to ride.

A couple of things I want to do inc:

db screen
crash bungs - so are R&G the best... what are the DHM ones like, do they work? Anyone got Moto Techniks or BSD or some other brand and where is the best place to buy them from???
louder (road legal) exhaust - quite like the look of the Remus ones. Is there any advantage getting a hi level one? Ideally don't want to change indicators and want to keep pillion pegs on. Any one got some 2nd hand for sale???

I know its been asked before but you can just stick other cans on can't you with out doing anything else?!?

So any other advice?Don't have much money...

oh, and a strange thing happened the other day - the speedo was playing up for a bit. Was flicking from the right speed down to zero then up and down a bit. Seemed to sort itself out after about a mile... DOes the speedo use a cable of an electric sensor thingy??? Could it have been cos I washed it the night before?

8O Wow 8O
That didn't take long. Was that you going around the filton round about last night? or was it the night before? memory fudged these days!

As long as your not changing from road legal to full race you should be okay, a little carb tweeking and you'll get a bit more out of them
Keep checkng out the for sale/wanted section if you are after some cheep bits, things are always popping up.

Nice one Adam, sounds like you got a good deal

R&G have a reputation for being some of the best
BUT
you have to drill the fairing to fit them and you'll have to remove and refit them every time you take your fairing off

Motrax topblok ones work as my mate demonstrated
Check out the earlier thread http://www.abercon.co.uk/vtr1000/phpBB2 ... php?t=4397

I've got some from Rhencullen which are pretty monstrous but I've only tested them at low speed (so far! :) )

Also got high level Remus cans (road legal) which I didn't rejet initially for but after fitting a Pipercross filter were a bit lean (130 miles to reserve on a 16L tank!)
You can get a Remus spacer kit for the pillion footrests which includes longer bolts
The cans allow you to retain the standard blinkicators but massively improve ground clearance (the exhaust headers go down on right handers before the cans -I know this from experience :P )

Speedo sounds like a washing related oddity, maybe someone with a manual can confirm but I don't think the speedo needle is used to indicate a diagnostic type fault

Why don't you boys just not fall off? Then you wouldn't have to fit those roller-skatey stoppy things on your bikes. :D

Okay, you got me! But they're all muddy at the mo'. Been raining for about 3 days straight (speaking of straight...)! Seems you lot have had enough of your "flash flooding" & sent the rain clouds south.

Btw, you might have all your fancy schmancy european neighbours  & it only takes you half an hour to get from one place to another, but over here we've got roads and weather (well, normally) that you wouldn't believe. generally, a recommended 80k corner goes for 200 & there are a loooooot of those. See, we've got the room to make our roads go wherever we want. We're not restricted to having to fit everything in to a tiny little block of land. ... and there's much less traffic!

And Australians, being amazingly brilliant don't have coblestones in their roads either :D The horse and cart went out ages ago and it wasn't all that popular anyway, 8O Bugger driving on them how the hell do you walk on them :!:

OK, so you've got me on the traffic bit!

But why build a straightish road (200kph is not really a corner, just a kink in the road  ) between two backwater sheep shearing towns when you can cram this many corners in

Nice curves. Looks like fun. Scotland just happens to be one of my favourite places. :D
How drunk are the guys who make your roads?? Surely there was a straighter way of making it?? :D

Rich,
Good point
HOWEVER
I think you might have made a better point if you'd had a photo where it wasn't raining (or about to rain)

Ben

NB you may have to use computer trickery to edit the photo first coz there's never yet been a photo taken in Scotland that DIDN'T meet one of the two criteria
