Got to ask the question...

How do they measure the noise levels, as in far from from the exhaust, rev range etc so I know if it's even worth me making the trip before they say "sorry, Too Loud"?

Why ask... sometime you just go to do it and find out?

At mallory they do it at the hair pin when your on track giving large out the bend !!!
If you fail the noise test you will be sent off and if you can't make it pass they will not let you back on .

I see... so that means I have to make at least 105db at the track or they black flag me and send me home in shame!

No you have to be under it .
And its the bike noise (induction and exhaust ) they check .
at the moment my induction is a lot louder than the exhaust !!

What about if I keep it throttled back and "Flintstone" it out the hairpin with both legs rather than risk it?

Before we book and pay for this, I will ask them for a guide on the noise levels. From what I gather, we should all be OK at 105 dB as long as you have baffles in.

Front page updated again with preferences.

That's what I am worried about as the pipes I have on have no baffles and no option to get them in there..

Why is there no option?

You can always fit noise suppressors, which are basically just pipes that fit inside the opening I believe. I think Ady has some fitted, and Benny once posted something about how he made some for his bike.

I could never do a track day for that exact reason. I think even with my baffles in it would be more than 105db :eek2 or very close to the limit. I think they test the noise level at a certain RPM not at idle. Ziggy you may want to query with them if refunds are given if noise level fails. I have a feeling it may be a non refundable deposit.

I think 105 dB will be more than you think.

As a guide, it's apparently about the same as a power saw or power mower at 3' away. That's pretty loud.

Some tracks have a limit of 105 dB at idle stood next to the bike. Some test on a driveby, which will be at a distance of about 20m apparently.

I think the majority of Storms will be OK.

And as for the deposit, I think that it will be non refundable if the bike fails, in the same way it's non refundable if you turn up with bald tyres, non compliant leathers/helmet etc.

But yes, I do plan on talking to them about specific bikes for noise levels and ill report back.

Please read this about the noise:

http://blog.trackdays.co.uk/a-guide-to- ... se-limits/

Especially the last section, about getting it tested. I think if you're worried about it, then before you pay, you need to head to your closest track or MOT garage and ask them to check it for you.
