Ok...

Post by VTRPiG »

So my wife and I bit the bullet and forked out for full service on the bike as I will be riding it a lot more as the other half needs the car most of the time now because of the wee one.

I got the garage to check the Cush drive as well as I'm not very confident with regards to removing the wheel and putting it back correctly 8O , it was good and the sprockets were good to. The bike it running better and a lot less rattly. But that maybe because of all the things I was checking to see we're ok I forgot to check the oil level  I pulled into a petrol station a few days before the bike was to get services and thought I'd check the oil as I hadn't checked it for a while.... Holy cr*p there was no oil in the wee window when I held the bike up right, so topped it up and it pretty much felt better straight away. The oil looked really dark in the wee window to. After the service it is a nice clear colour   lol

The mechanics took it for a ride and also noticed the 'clunking' noise and as another member in my last post mentioned said it felt like it was miss firing at low revs. I've noticed that when I put shell v power on it seems to get a lot worse and happens frequently. When using normal 95 octane it seems to hardly happen.

I have sprung a wee coolant leek in the left hand radiator on the very bottom hose. The mechanic couldn't find it as it only seems to happen every now and again, so another wee problem to sort out then :eek2 lol

Thanks again to everyone for your help, no doubt ill be calling again soon, not to soon I hope lol :biggrin :p

Good to know things are on the up for you :D

Are you sure it's a coolant leak from one of the rad hoses :?: if it is it may just need the hose clamp tightening up a small amount as it's probably OK until the hoses get hot and go softer than when the bike/coolant is cold.

i'm with sirch, check the hose first, secondhand rads can be had reasonably cheaply, contact seb if you need a rad.
the first sign that the oil is getting low, will be a more clunky gear change, don't worry to much about the oil level falling below the sight glass, the oil warning light will do its job when the oil is dangerously low, keep an eye on oil consumption tho, its all part of good bike maintanence.
sounds like your a happy bunny with the bike.......

I would check the small coolant hose on the thermostat housing. It may be dripping down and running off the rad making one think it's the radiator where the problem is.

As for the running is it a clunking sound or some other sound your trying to describe. As you mentioned that it gets worse with the higher octane fuel it suggests that it's an ignition thing, not cush drive or chain as in your previous post. There is no need to be using higher octane fuel on a standard engine it wont run any better on it. It will just burn quicker which could cause a bit of pinking sound as if the ignition is sort of too far advanced. I would set the TPS to 500 with a tolerance of -10 or +10 or as close as you can get it to 500 ohms. Also make sure that the carbs are balanced and see if that helps.

Sorry for late reply, been on holiday and between trying to get the garden sorted and giving my wife a break from the wee one I've had no free time 8O

sirch345 will check the hose and hopefully that is the fix fingers crossed :D

agentpineapple am loving the bike at the mo, every little bit that gets sorted the bike runs smoother and feels better to ride. Also having to ride the bike everyday now is also giving me a lot more confidence and feel much more relaxed with it. I was thinking of maybe swopping her for an il4 but I'm enjoying it too much at the mo 8O :biggrin . Will remember to check the oil more frequently  :eek2 :biggrin

cyber carol I have had the TPS thread open on my phone for the last month or so just reading through it and giving myself abit more understanding of what to do when I do it. I just need to get a multimeter now
