CLUTCH LEVER QUESTION

Post by sirch345 »

Has anybody found a solution to the rather heavy clutch (lever) of the Firestorm, considering its hydraulic?

IE. May be used a different master cylinder!

Heavy? I've never found it heavy
In fact I only use 2 fingers on it most of the time so I can slip it slightly (works like a slipper clutch but costs nowt!!)

You could try moving the bar clamp further up the handlebars so you're using it closer to the end (more levereage = less force required)

Mate, if you're finding it heavy, you may need to replace the rubbers in your master/slave cyl. I've never heard anyone say it's heavy.

I must dissagree, my clutch is heavy and after ten mins or so of filtering traffic on the motorway my arm is in agony, all that on off with the clutch really pumps my arm up, no way is it light., got to admit i had a bandit 600 b4, with a cable cluch, but the storm is deffinitly heavyier on the wear and tear on the hands and forearms. mines is am 02 model, if anyone is interested

Clutch

Post by t00lkit »

Chris, Kev

I have an 02 bike too and think the clutch is hard work around town / after a long ride.

Have just recently changed the fluid but no real difference, shouldn't need nee seals alraedy should it?

Ben said - 'You could try moving the bar clamp further up the handlebars so you're using it closer to the end (more levereage = less force required) '

Not sure what this means, could anyone explain further.....

Cheers

And i thought that was the choke

Seriously now.
It might be worth removing your slave cylinder before you go and spend any money.
All the grease and grit that gets caught in it, off the chain, can build up and the push rod which goes into the gearbox might need cleaning off or (and I know there is a protective cover for you smart asses out there) the crud can penetrate around the actual piston itself. So get you self a big bottle of "Engine Gunk" and give the lot a good degrease.
Once it's all clean see if you have any improvement. Oh! and remove the cluth lever and strip the grease and replace it with some new that should help a little.

Or you could chuck on master cylinder straight from a cbr600rr.
Bollo8k hard braking.
If you wanted to go the whole hog you could straight swap the calipers too.
