Fairings from Hong Kong

Has anyone ordered any?

If so, what happens with import taxes? Are they exempt?

I have read decent reviews about them, and apparently they aren't anywhere near as bad as some people think they will be, I am thinking of ordering one of these for doing track days with:

You will have to pay import tax If they find it .
The chinky body kits have come a long way over the last few years but you will still have a few fitting issues like drilling new hole and filling the old . And if the exhaust runs close the the panels fit heat proofing otherwise the fairing will melt .
The paint is good on them on the out side but you can see all the masking up on the inside as they don't black of the inside :-( .
Do some research with regards to the seller as some fairing are better that others .

I will be ordering a set from a company on ebay called need for motors for my tzr when the time comes import tax is about £30 if your unlucky enough to have to pay for it or so I am told. If your buying from ebay read the sellers feedback as most people seem very happy with the products that they have received only a few that needed slight modifications to make the kits fit.

I ordered a set for the SP1 project. Price was £290 including delivery. Used the tracking number supplied and saw that it was held in customs for about 3 days. Finally got a card from Parcelforce saying that they would not release the package until fees had been paid. Worked out at around the £70-£75 mark which included import duty AND the parcelforce handling fee. Was told by the guy on the counter that they tax it on the combined value of goods AND the shipping cost (Obviously so no £10 declared value but £300 to ship.....)Bottom line was if you dont pay, you dont get the parcel. Nice to see Richard Turpin is alive and well.......

I think it's a bit hit and miss with the customs. I have noticed that some of the sellers point out that there are no taxes to pay as they are pre-paid and offer tax refund if charged. The thing that will get you though is the rip off parcel force who charge a fee for picking it up from the customs and delivering. Pickup and handling charges or whatever their excuse is to rip us off. Do your research on the Chinese sellers.

I do like the idea of buying from the uk, but this is blatantly a company selling the Chinese fairings at a markup. I don't really think it's worth the extra £200.

If the taxes are only around £60-70 then it wouldn't be that bad even if it did get stopped I suppose.

i got a set last year for my zx7r and i have to say the quality was as good as the kwak ones. really pleased with them. and its the luck of the draw if customs hit your container. id nothing to pay for those tax wise but two weeks later i got for tax on a set of wavy brakes..you take your chances just.

No issues with paint flaking off or heat making the paint discolour or bubble then?

I think ill take the risk and order the hong kong set.

One more question though, will I need to inform DVLA when I change the fairings over if I ride on the road?

if its a complete change of colour you'll need to notify the dvla, although this summer i've been riding a blue bike and the logbook says red, i've not been stopped by the police yet, plus my engine numbers don't match either....
i've got to pop to the dvla office in sarf london and get it changed asap, because i want to sell it.

i had no problems at all with mine paintwise. i think the outfit i got mine from where called needformotos...
