Plastic piece rattling round my fuel tank

Post by mactat2 »

Hi All, drained my tank tonight ready for painting and when you shook it something was rattling round inside? finally managed to fish it out and its a piece of black plastic that looks very similar in shape and size to an aerosol nozzle. Question is, is it supposed to be attached to something inside the tank or could it be something that had fallen in at some point in the bikes life? :confused i'll post a pic up shortly
cheers

It might be a datatag microchip thing that can be thrown inside the tank. Is it Black plastic and round about the size of a 1/2 pence.

Had the previous owner sprayed it for the winter hibernation and accidentally knocked the nozzle off. Mind you not a bad place for the microchip as long as its fuel resistant

it may well be the retainer off the float for the fuel level sensor.
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Thanks for the response guys, like the widget idea  the bike is data tagged so I think it could be that, its definatly no a nozzle (just the same shape and size) and the bikes a 98 so no fuel level sender just the reserve gizmo

here it is.........

That's different from the datatag chip I had. Has it not got any markings on it :confused Nope, don't know what that is, don't recognise it. A mystery part.

No, your thinking of the knurled bit at the front that sits under the rubber.

The pre-facelift storms have a float switch.. the later ones have a float rheostat...
I think thats part of the float.
The bit that stops the float falling off the wire bit.
If i was u id take it out and have a look cos its probably in pieces
