My poorly vtr

Post by Gazfirestormowner »

Ok so as some of u know that my bike was placed in the poorly group at yesterday's dyno day well ive just had a look at my carbs and to say I'm shocked would be an understatement! As it was said my bike was running rather lean well it's not that surprising when it's got 120 main jets in the front and back. so I'm now going to read up on how to do the cam timing then I'm going to read it again before i go at the bike and see if it is 180 degree out as u all suspected all them weeks ago! I will keep u all updated how it goes.

I have a spare set of carbs here if you want to give them a try after you've checked the timing and it is still no good

I'm surprised it ran at all with 120s.

Even with plugged air bleeds you run in the 150 range..... :eek2

The correct size mains should help you out quite a bit

I've got the rear cylinder set at tdc do I just release the tensioner remove the guide and cams and turn the engine 180 degrees and put it back together or is there any way of checking if its out by 180 degree first

I would set the front cyl. to TDC on compression and then rotate the 270 degrees and check the rear is in the proper orientation.

:eek2 120's WTF how did they come to that conclusion. What about the pilots and needles. You betta make sure the emulsion tubes are the right way around too.

And yes get that timing sorted. you can get it done at the same time as the CCT's if doing them as well. Lloydie will help  While the rear is on TDC on the compression stroke with both cams pointing upwards and inwards. remove the cams and turn the crank one turn anti clockwise until the RT comes back around and put the cams back in.

OK make sure that it's TDC on the compression stroke. This can be verified by the cam lobes. They should be pointing upwards and inwards. On the cam sprockets you will have RI and RE these should both be on the outside edge horizontal with the top of the cylinder head.

Even with 120jets the AFR shows that it is running RICH on the mains. And when we took the baffles out it ran worse!!

It is more than just the jetting, it's not getting the air in!

Don't just adjust the timing by 180, best to take both cam covers off and work out what the timing is at the moment.

From rear compression TDC with cam lobes as described by Carl yu should be moving the engine 1 and1/4 turns and the front should then be at TDC compression with both cams up but pointing up and out.

If it is the cam timing then adjust by 180.
