Can this be used?

Post by seb421 »

Can this actually be used on a bike licence?

would be ideal for my winter and would save me doing driving lessons this year

Can be driven on a full car licence and / or a full motorcycle licence if test passed before 19th January 2013, check out DVLA's website to be sure (http://www.dvla.gov.uk)

Fair enough. This is a direct copy/paste from the dvla website

Provisional category B car licences and provisional category A licences now only cover you to ride motor tricycles if you have a physical disability. Driving tests for 3-wheeled vehicles are only available for physically disabled drivers.

If you’re not physically disabled and want to ride a motor tricycle you’ll now need to get the right provisional entitlement and complete CBT.

You’ll need a full category A1 motorbike licence to ride motor tricycles up to power output 15kW, and a full category A motorbike licence to ride trikes with a power output more than 15kW.

Once you’ve completed CBT you have 2 years to pass your full motorbike theory and practical tests or you’ll have to complete CBT again.
answer is still yes

It says so on his advert so I guess it's right.

But what about the trike being road legal? Won't it need some sort of safety testing if it's a one off?

I'd heard of one but I didn't find one. Just did a quick search for trikes on the DVLA and this page came up

https://www.gov.uk/ride-motorcycle-moped

Couldn't find anything else

Sweet mate so according to this i can use any 3 wheeler over 15kw?

https://www.gov.uk/ride-motorcycle-mope ... quirements

A Motorbikes unlimited in size/power, with or without a sidecar, and motor tricycles with power output over 15 kW Direct access - CBT theory and practical (you must be at least 24 years old); Staged access route - held an A2 licence for a minimum of 2 years - practical test (21 or over)

What exactly do they class as a motor trike tho? anything with three wheels or does it have to have a singular front wheel?

trike bikes - ie three-wheeled motorised vehicles with no body work for the transport of two passengers
https://www.gov.uk/classifying-vehicles

They don't go into much detail on the matter. Useless DVLA

It's quad bikes that require an old bike license I think, it said in one of my earlier posts that you can do it provided you got a license before the 19th January this year, when the new laws came in.

That's the limit of my knowledge though, the DVLA doesn't provide enough information for me to stalk through
