At the end of the day I don't think anyone can get perfect settings on the standard rear shock. Since srting the front out, O fine the rear two soft on the lowest rtting and if I move to the second clip then it's slightly too hard. The best of the two evils for me is the lowest (softest) setting. I weigh about 10.5 to 11 stone.

But it's a good starting point

And they will all be slightly different depending on how many miles they've covered, your wieght, age etc.
Personally I prefer to start from slightly too soft and then keep adding more until everything feels under control again. Going the other way from having it over sprung and too hard can give some really nasty tank slappers.
If the bike is feeling like the back end is squatting coming out of corners on the power, you've too much rebound. If, on the other hand every time you hit a little bump in the road it's firing your back side out of the seat, then you don't have enough. Also, if you manage to constantly bottom out the suspension then you should go for a harder spring setting. It's all a bit of a trade off and the final result will be what ever gives you the most control/confidence in the widest range of circumstance.
At least the front end is easy as there isn't that much to play with

Re: standard rear set up
The only thing I seem to notice is if I go over a bumpy section it bounces a bit too much
also if you accidentally go over a pot hole it makes you feel like you've gone over a land mine
so I THINK i need more damping to stop the continue bouncing, correct
and also go to the second click, standard preload, to soften it up
Cheers guys
