Refurbishment is cheap. Oh no it's not!

Post by Image »

Someone put me in touch with a company who refurbishes starter motors saying it costs very little. Got a quote off em for my storm starter motor. £130 plus £30 p&p. Sod that for a game of soldiers. That ain't cheap.
Looks like I'll be modifying a Honda Hornet one then .

I'll wait for this Honda Hornet starter motor to arrive and see what mods it'll need to make it fit. I'm not very good at mods so we'll see :(

Under 12k and look how rusty that bolt is already. It just goes to show.

I agree strip it down. Give it a good clean and sort the bolt out that always goes rusty and gives a bad contact. There's not much to go wrong with them really. Only that bolt and the starter bushes. I suspect the bushes are fine and the bolt is probably giving you some issues.

I'm not suggesting the seller is lying just pointing out that it goes to show how quick those bolts go bad. It's a common issue with these bikes if the bolt is not packed out with some grease to stop them corroding.

Reasonable price just to have all cleaned up & packed away on a shelf ready if needed.

Why not just get a fireblade starter motor 92-99, they bolt straight on, you just need to use the longer firestorm lead, no messing about. Loads on ebay for about £20. I put a 94 fireblade starter on my firestorm last year.
