Exhaust heat wrap
Exhaust heat wrap
Thought about heat wrapping exhaust from rear cylinder to keep some heat away from rear shock and linkage! Any thoughts? Has it been tried? Pro's & cons? Would both pipes have to be done? Cheers, Watty.

Re: Exhaust heat wrap
It is a fashion to do in the hotter US states but English weather esp winter makes a mess of it.
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Re: Exhaust heat wrap
a few have done it, but not many shout about its benefits. the wrap can get tatty quickly, theres a spray you can use to help protect it from grime. give it a go and let us know how it turns out....
HEY YOU GUYS!!!!!!
Re: Exhaust heat wrap
for race use yes. for road use I wouldn't bother. it has a habbit of making stainless pipes go brittle..
the older i get,the faster i was

Re: Exhaust heat wrap
iv used it it on my storm just because i couldnt get any paint to stick to me headers ! i would say if you do go for it soak the wrap in water and wear thick gloves as it will soon make a mess of your hands
If sh1t were money you would be worth a fortune
Re: Exhaust heat wrap
DO you all have shops there that do ceramic coat? (same process as powder coating, just a different material used)
You get the benefits of header wrap, without the downsides.

Re: Exhaust heat wrap
Where you getting it done for £100, most of the quotes I have had back are around £200-£250 depending on colour for the headers..That was a proper plasma sprayed process.
Why ask... sometime you just go to do it and find out?
Re: Exhaust heat wrap
I recently sold a CX500 cafe racer I'd built and wrapped the exhausts. After a good run I could grab hold of the exhaust headers and they simply felt warm.

Re: Exhaust heat wrap
Fully wrapping the exhausts pipes as far as the canisters on a racing VTR can give as much as 4bhp
It was eventually banned by the FIM and ACU for racing around '98 because if there is any oil leakage/spillage or even oily hands from careless trackside mechanics the pipes begin to smoke which alarmed trackside marshals and following riders who believed the engine was about to blow up. Probably a wise decision. Up to the date of the ban Revolution Racing general lagged all its racing exhaust pipes on Twins and Triples or at least the first 12" of header pipes on Fours like the CBR600.
