Sunday MOT Leicestershire???
Sunday MOT Leicestershire???
In need of a bit of help. Just noticed that my MOT ran out on Fri and with my new job it is going to be nearly two weeks before I get chance to get to someone to MOT it. Does anyone know of a test centre open on a Sunday around the Leicester area?
Another thing..... does anyone know if there are any DB killers that will fit my Harris cans? Could do with some for track days and maybe MOT depending on how picky they are. Or can you get universal ones to fit?

I don't know of anywhere unfortunately, but, if you do find somewhere, then ask them to check the dB of your bike whilst you're there. At least you know then if you need them or not.
There were some really loud bikes at Cadwell, including another black Storm track bike that all passed the test.
To pass you have to hold your bike at 5k RPM for a V twin 1000cc - see here: http://www.clubmsv.com/bike-trackday-noise-limits.aspx

Exhaust noise is only measured at idle and is the testers discretion as there is no equipment in the mot test to measure the noise. I'm not exactly on your doorstep,I'm at newark but I can do an mot early Monday morning(7:00ish) of that's any help just let me know

Cheers Hairy
I shall bare it in mind. Might just come up and see you to get the MOT done just for a ride out. Officers can't say owt if it's booked in
Just annoyed as I had it written on a white board in my room and with having started a new job this week I totally forgot about it until I caught a glimse of it earlier and looked at it 3 or 4 times and thought "that cant be right" but I wouldn't have wrote that date for nothing.
Hair can't you just do a blind MOT from 50miles away

Certainly won't be the last. Just means now I can't safely take it out on the road. Real shame because I was wondering about getting it out later for an evening ride again

For baffles...Measure the internal diameter of the outlet spout, phone them up & Bob's your dads brother who may or not know that bloke who knew that neighbour who had an uncle who worked in acoustics & soundproofing...
Depending on how old the cans are, it's worth repacking them as well. The left hand pipe on mine only had about a quarter of the packing left in it !
The right hand can was still full...
BTW mine are Harris cans to...

Thanks Mac. Is it hard to re pack the pipes? assuming you just drill off the rivits out an pull the outer off? I shall have to give them a ring next week at some point.
Re: Sunday MOT Leicestershire???
It was a bit of a faff getting in the new packing in tbh, it comes on a card board tube & wrapped in cling film, the idea is to ''slide'' it down with the tube over the baffle & the cling film left on. Then pull the card board tube out...The reality is once you have squeezed the packing in most of cling wrap rips off & the tube is a bastid to get out. The cling wrap is meant to stay in place & burn off over time also the heat pulls it all in tight & expands to fill any voids. Round packing...oval cans.Ckennedy wrote:Thanks Mac. The second can went easier...I worked out that by tapping the can on the floor end on it worked the packing down...rather than struggling to push it in,this means taking both ends off so you just repack the sleeve. Makes it easier to get the card board out though.
The hardest bit was drilling the rivets out, you only have to take the head off. Use a new nice sharp drill bit, if you have a bench drill it is much easier if not an extra pair of hands to hold the can is going to be a big help. Don't use to big drill bit you don't want to enlarge the holes. Carl suggested using a cone cutter...Halfruds sell stainless rivets BTW.

Yeh cone cutters work a treat.
Here's a couple of links for you Chris. I;m going to use loose fill rather than the pre rolled stuff. Not cheap but very good quality and is the same packing that all the big brand exhausts use.

And one on packing.
