And your cans wont get so hot as the packing is not only there to quieten them but to absorb heat. You should also have a slightly better power output as the resonance pressure waves will get absorbed. You will get less vibrations which can be a bit of a problem with no packing and break the welds on the inner perforated tube along with the excess heat.

My left can is getting a bit of a tinny sound to it as I loose more and more packing. And when it was on the dyno the other week they got excessively hot for Titanium  They where literally smoking at the end of the run. I thought the packing was on fire. :eek2

Is there a mileage at which they should be done or are they all different? My bike doesn't sound tinny or the cans don't seem to get overly hot.

Mileage not really and I guess it all depends on the quality of the packing. Also the way the bike has been treated. One of the worst things for packing is if it gets wet when washing the bike or something or the outlets are at an angle where rain can get in. You would know if they needed doing as bits of packing may fly out the outlet and they would get excessively hot. And then off course there is the noise increase. There is no such service interval as such as far as I'm aware.

Come to Rugby for it. One of my friends uncles runs a garage and if he knows the bike is good condition (knows owner/customer is friend of someone he knows (me)) he just writes your mileage et voila

Well now there's an idea. I don't get the point of MOT's. There only valid at the time of test. Added to that a lot of MOT testers have never seen a spanner. Just done a course in a classroom. I'm a trained mechanic. My bike is always road worthy as I don't skimp on the money spent on it. If it needs it, it has it. Unlike the car..... Need to replace a section of exhaust as it is blowing but that's another story. But I can not pass my bike for MOT even though I pre pair vehicles for MOT every week. Figure that out :? Stupid idea. Cant ride the bike legally now until I get it but that could be 2 weeks 8O I'll die in that period from withdrawal symptoms
