As said the fun would be having a bike for learning to do twisties well and keeping up corner speed, rather than outright horsies down straights- for that you may as well do drag racing or even cheaper blast down motorways early on a Sunday mornings.

here's a few K3's and a K4. the K4 mentions a red key, I don't think GSXR's came with a red key, none of mine had one, some yamaha's do though ?

I do think you'll get one of those for £2500 if you wave the cash under their nose so to speak.

If you can stratch to a K3 it's a better bike all round, suspensions better and more suited to track than the K1/2, you may well be messing with oil and springs on a K1/2 (more cost) the engine feels a bit livelier too, better pick up, you won't need to change the brakes from the scary K1 brakes (saves spending out on calipers) The K1 was a good first effort, they built the K3 to win on track, which it did. If you got a cheap K1 once you've sorted a few bits it'll cost as much if not more than a K3.

The article gives a good overview of what is what but doesn't explain all the details, to go into it in depth would take ages and would be lost on most.
What I know is the early R1's suffered holding a line, race teams couldn't cure it without changing the yokes to be able to adjust the offset. As std dropping or raising the forks in the yokes didn't cure the problem. It goes to show that one thing has an effect on the others and rake, trail, offset etc have to be designed as a one.
Early model R6's also suffered a bit, nowhere near as much as the R1, you could all but dial it out with the R6.

It also goes to show how bad the design was out the factory.

I don't fully understand the whole rake and trail thing. I expect one needs a masters degree in physics. I would just experiment and go by what feels good. It does make one wonder what it would be like riding some custom bikes with their extra long forks sticking right out at some silly angle and a big fat wheel the size of a truck on the rear what corner

Nope, I think more is needed. I have a degree in Physics believe it or not, and although I understand the geometry, i don't understand how changing any of these things helps / hinders....

I still think a GSXR750 would make you a better rider but that is just me.

Profile pic is a gsxr1000K5, It's an old pic from 05 but I like it. I had one of the first ones, kept it for 2 1/2 years, I've since had a K7 and a K4.

I race a 1981 Suzuki 1100 Katana with classic racing club, it's a bit like taking a London bus around a race track compared to anything modern
If I did a track day i'd use either my old XJ600 (top fun) or my storm, Did a couple of meetings on my old one in 2000 and won 5 out of 10 races on it, and it was a road bike
