Noise on over-run

I have a slightly annoying chattering noise coming from the engine when its running down past 3000rpm until i pull the clutch and the noise stops? Im assuming that it could be to do with the clutch but want to have a good idea of what people think before pulling it apart?
Also the bike is coming up to 22,000 miles and im doing another servise this weekend (oil/filters only) the last servise i done was at 18,500 which was oil/filter/plugs and air filter, is it going to neex anything major doing soon like valve checks and so on?

Has you bike still got standard CCT's fitted as when a CCT spring starts to go weak that will cause the cam chain to start slapping about abit in the cam chain tunnel. The front is most common to fail and at approx. At 3,000rpms is where the tension from a good CCT is reapplied on the front cylinder when the rev's are coming back down.

Yes still has the standard cct's.. if thats the case then a pair of manual ones will have to be winging there way here

The only thing I'm not 100% sure about is the bit you say about the noise disappears when you pull the clutch lever in. This could be because with the clutch still engaged the load on the cam chain from the overrun of the bike slowing down means there will be more slack in the cam chain on the CCT side. Once the clutch is disengaged (lever pulled in) the slack is less on the CCT side of the cam chain.

If your bike still has original CCT's then I would definitely suggest fitting manuals or at least doing the stopper mod on new standard CCT's.

If you pull in the clutch lever and keep the revs at 3000, does the noise stay or go? One points to clutch related, the other towards CCT.

Iv just ordered manual cct's off the bay so il get them changed anyway.. the noise seems to be coming from the left hand side of the engine which is why i wasnt sure about the clutch. The noise just quietens when the clutch is pulled but because the exhausts are load its hard to tell..

Either way I still think it's a good idea to address the standard CCT's. At least once you've fitted the new manual tensioners you'll have piece of mind, plus you'll know if it was a weak spring on the front CCT or not. Fingers crossed that is it. Do keep us posted,

At 22,000 thou you really are well due to change the CCT's. I expect the noise is there at higher revs and it's just the extra engine and exhaust noise that is blocking it out so is not as noticeable.

Not sure I'd know what noise it was meant to make there....But hey, give it a go.
