Re: first vtr 1000 new member
Welcome!
Definitely take the advise from the wise ones on this forum with regards to the CCT's, I've just joined after recently buying a Firestorm, I've already done my CCT's after some words of encouragement and a good read of the CCT replacement guide, it's an easy job to carry out and you can ride your new bike without any worries of failures, which means you can focus on the important things... Vrrooom!
If you're not too far from me, I'd be happy to give you a hand doing the work.

Hello If you do the cct's yourself follow the destructions in cybercarl's signature they're brilliant my mum could do cct's following those instructions. Don't tell him though we don't want him to get all big headed
Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most

Re: first vtr 1000 new member
Thanks for all the hellos and advice. I live on the sunny (sometimes) Isle Of Wight. I think I will fit some new Honda ccts, the ones in there have been fine for 13 years and 20,000 miles so new ones should do the job. I have had a look at the knowledge section on ccts and seems fairly straight forward, but I know where to come for advise ! Cheers...

Hi all, just bought my first twin bike.1999, 20,000 miles been stood for couple of years. Just gone straight through MOT so no major problems. Its got Yoshi cans on it so sounds nice, not many other mods. I want to fit a tail tidy, any ideas where to get one or just trim the one that's on there? . Also "these" cct have not been done yet. Any advice on when to do them ? Should I use manual cct and if so why not just use the Honda automatic ones again. Looking f
orward to many years riding it so I need to get a few jobs/mods done on it....Cheers Damon.

It would be worth popping a bit of 8mm aluminium rod into your new Honda CCT's as a fail safe, I.e "the stopper mod".

Changed my mind... Going for the manual cct instead now ! But the weather so nice I just want to keep riding it ! Better do them soon though.

FWIW the original Honda Firetorm CCT's, the ones that were in the bike from new generally last longer than any new standard Honda replacements. We've come to the conclusion that is due to the way the replacement CCT (spares) are stored. They are stored with the plunger being fully retracted which is putting far more strain on a CCT spring than they ever would receive in the bike. This we feel could be contributing to early failure. The replacement Honda CCT's could be months or more in that state of stress. Waiting to be shipped out, being shipped across the globe and stored while waiting to be sold.

Welcome to the site Damon, I too am a newb to the VTR and have acquired MCCTs from Bazza. I am nervous in doing this job myself but don't have anyone near to help me, gunna crack on though soon....

Hi, yes I got mine today from Bazza. Looks straight forward if u follow the guide in the workshop section. I am going to seal mine with lock tight when I install them. Any problems and we know where to come :-)
