Noisy chain

Post by Image »

My chain is making a sort of intermittent rubbing noise on something. Checked tension and it's got one inch of play which should be about right. It's well lubed. Anyone know the cause or know what it's rubbing on?

If it's only got one inch of slack it shouldn't be rubbing on anything.
Are you sure its not got a tight spot? it could cause you to incorrectly adjust it and the chain could be too slack and hitting the exhaust.

Give it a good lube and slowly check each link. If you can get someone to sit on the bike it will make it a lot easier to check.

Yeah, the chain is a year old so it could have tight spots.

I had the same problem recently with a tight spot. Not only was it causing an issue with going from tight to slack but I think it made the front sprocket make some noise as it rotated. A good clean and re-lube sorted it.

Yep, cleaned it with white spirit then washed off and re-lubed and it's fine now.
