"Austria " trip

Post by bigtwinthing »

Just returned from my Austria trip and the bike completed 2,712 miles absolutly faultlessly, it was a fantastic ride through France germany and into Austria, it was bloody hot and pissed it down only once ( but that wasa relief from all the heat to be honest).
The grossGlockner pass was all i remembered it to be and more, not 1 other Firestrom did i see on the trip. i did see the new "Suzuki V Strom" up there being tested and that did look smart, The highlight of the trip for me was all the mountain tunnels and the shear noise that emulated from my bike as i blasted through the mountain Passes. I met some fantasic people during those 10 days and the run up to the Glacier was filled with bikes diving in amounst a never ending line of coaches was awsome.
I met a german guy who had a Ducati S4 and he couldnt belive how good the Storm was, he had just had a 900Euro service done on the bike and it was coughing and spluttering up the whole pass, he was truly amazed with how well i was blasting out the corners.

I was intending to check fuel and keep petrol cost etc but in the end i just filled it up and paid by visa, i will let you know the cost when the bill comes in. The Grossglockner was the best 23 euro i have ever spent though.

I hit 150 on the german autobahn( that is quite scary with cars still passing me) for a few miles but bloody hell the old fuel gauge was going down like the rev counter going up. but to ride at 100 for a couple of hours was great. The bike got so may looks at all the petrol stations and mountain passes mainly due to the noise i think.

The white wheels have come up lovely after the trip and iam sure that the good polish i gave them did the trick. I only had to adjust my chain once too. Rear tyre is almost worn out so i will have to get another set on this weekend. The schnitzels and Apple strudl were as good as ever.
Iam still buzzing after this trip and will send in some pics soon. the storm maynot be the best touring bike out there but i was always smiling and fuel consumption!!! dont give a jot. Gonna spend the next 2 days removing flys from my trousers and textile jacket!!!. :biggrin

Glad you enjoyed it, I still enthuse about my own trip in 2009!
I agree about Grossglockener but too many damned tourists.

Personally I preferred the less busy Alpenstrasse which had endless hairpin bends beautiful scenery and very little traffic!

The trip was awesome, i went from france down across the bottom germany and into Austria, the roads were just simply fantastic and i met so many people, not 1 other storm, but i did have some great blasts with other bikers through France. i met up with 3 girls in Basel and road with them for 190 miles or so and we had lunch by a lovely lake there. Luckely i speak a bit of german so we all had food we liked and it was a fantasic day. They were riding 2 Aprilia Shivers and a Ducati 800 monster. I havent got my photoos back yet but will on saturdat, i will post some on and you can see what why i liked it!!!. Put a new tyre on in germany as i had a slow puncture and the guy in the garage had a go on my Storm and i tried his K1300s bloody hell that went like sh1t off a shovel. 10 miles was enough though and i went over the border and had my first well deserved "Schnitzel" the roads were quite quit but so many bends it was just great, 33 degrees for 3 days and never below 28 all week. Did a days skiing on the Glacier and visited "Hitlers" Eagles nest" and that road was superb too. I even walked down my normal ski run and enjoyed that too. The Gross Glockner was just a good but busier that 1977 but well worth the run. The new Suzuki V Strom was there and look good but very quiet compared to the Storm.

Another update tomorrow as out for a blast now !!!

What a plonker. 8O

Hope he finds them bud. Give him some stick and make him track down his last few customers
Were they taken on 35mm film and had to be converted to Jpeg? or did you take the card in to get some prints done?

offered me half price photo,s
Now that just adds insults to injury. The guy looses you SD card with all your holiday pics and think half price cuts it.  He should be offering free for the next 6 months. Or maybe give you another holiday so you can go and take all the pictures again. I would be fuming.

Could you imagine if an advertising company had paid for models, photographer, make up artists, location, studio time, everything for a shoot. And then someone looses the images/negatives/SD Card. Who's going to pay for them to do it all again. Even then you can never get the same pic twice, it's a moment in time.

(:-})

i have some pics with the Sony Camera but i took loads with the camera fitted to the tank and on my helmet, via a suction cup device that i have used on numerous ski holidays. The sound track was also music up through all the tunnels.

He may find them as some people have left theres and gone on holiday so they may still be there yet.

Stevensons of Hythe, dont use em. b8stard
