Head bearings

Post by pmcq »

Hello All,

I removed my front wheel to do some work last night and noticed that when i turn the handle bars the forks seem to click gently when they are straight - difficult to explain its like there is a notch when the handle bars are striaght and when they are turned you can feel it coming out of the notch. I dont think this is meant to be like this! Is it time to change those head bearings?

Cheers!

It sounds like your head bearings have a notch, But check that no cables are catching or something like that.

Mine failed its MOT at 7000 miles for head bearings, I think that Honda just use fiddler ones. They have balls instead of rollers and when the grease goes hard they just punch into the outer under braking and the like and cause a notch.

Maybe they are made of the same material as the CCT's ha ha

( I am laughing but not smilin'...)

Does any body know what the Honda or NSK partnumber is for the Headbearings? Want to replace mine but doesn't want to pay the Honda money if I can get better ones for ½ the price...
