Rear shock, upgrade or rebuild?

Because, when I raised the question, I was unaware of the extent of options and costs. What better to way to gather initial information than to use the human resources on this forum?

What was the problem when it was MoT'd ? is the old shock leaking?

Its misting and a bit worn. bikes done less than 17000 but its a still a 14 year old budget shock struggling to support the bike and the fat bloke on it....

there are places selling new old stock VTR shocks for much less than the cost of a rebuilt shock. I think Lloydie got one so he might be able to add more info

It might be worth a call/email to see if they have any left .

New Old Stock

so they are old model parts that have been in stock for ages, but are still new

I Just got my shock done by MCT for £89 + Vat they advised the standard spring would be fine for solo use. I got my forks resprung and serviced at the same time that was a bit dearer but the overall package has made a great big difference to the bike.

Im off the opinion a rebuilt shock from somewhere with a good reputation should be better than a new one as these guys take proper care of oil/gassing levels and select the correct oil grade for your weight etc. Not like the factory where im confident they will have a far more throw it together approach.

I went down the ohlins route with my last bike but for all the firestorms are worth these days its hard to justify spending that kind of money on it Just my 2p
