Something weird just happened to bike

Post by sgoaty »

I was out for a run on the bike today and stopped to put in fuel. I then popped in by to see my folks (about 3 miles from petrol station) stayed there for about 15 minutes then went to head home. The bike was really under powered and cutting out even when i was keeping the revs right up. It behaved like this for about 10 minutes then it cleared and is running perfect again.

It wasnt firing on the back cylinder. Does it sound like the carbs have maybe picked up some dirt from the tank or is there something ignition related which is a common issue on these?
Thanks
Scott

Ah. I bet thats all it was. I had to stop a couple of times then it started up again after a minute it was brimming. I did about 150 miles today without a hitch before that happened.

Ill just see how it behaves when im next out.
Cheers

When it acts up, open the filler cap and close it and see if the issue goes away.

Though it does sound like the vent tube got clogged with fuel.

Check spark plug connection ,, rear plug is easy , make sure the
plug top connector is pressed home and clicked on solidly to the top
of the plug. may have come loose. Consider new plugs.. get Denso's
Iridiums for about £8.00p at the Mo
Alb

Sounds to me exactly like what happens when you put fuel in that is full of shite!

Well its never happened again so my money is on the airlock. Its weird going back to older bikes had my ZZR for 5 years and never a hicup. Its all part of the biking experience i suppose :)

Yep that is an airlock from filling to the brim and the tank breather not being able to breath. If filling the tank while sitting on the bike don't fill above the bar at the top of the tank. If on the side stand you can get away with it as when you sit the bike back up there is a gap. Also as AMQ said in the hot weather it makes it worse as things expand more.

I had my first storm 4 years and put 32,000 on it. Every time I stopped for juice it got brimmed. Never once did I have this problem.

It's a well known issue, I guess you got lucky. Or maybe you had an unnecessary mod that was necessary to stop it from happening :biggrin
