Ahh sh1t mate, unlucky, I know which van you mean too, I saw that the other week when I was out in the car. It was parked on the straight opposite the golf course, with its speed camera facing back toward Towton. As I went past I looked at the front and it was totally unmarked, so oncoming traffic wouldn't have known unless they looked sideways as they went past it or in their rear view mirror.
Speed guns like that catch your instantaneous speed unfortunately, so he will have clocked you as soon as he saw you. I suppose you can still ask for photographic evidence and see if they have anything? If you haven't been caught by N. Yorks Police before they might let you do the speed awareness course and avoid the 3 points?

Yeah mate just got in from work spoke to you then opened my mail , what a waste of time putting the van there ,I wasn't doing any harm ,no traffic and good conditions ,what a bugger, might go on course if its offered but I ask you 80 Christ what's happened to our country where you can't speed everywhere on my little motorbike?

So that an 80 in a 50, ouch, sorry to hear that mate. I just recently got nabbed doing 72 in a 40 on a dual carriageway where it had literally dropped from 50 to 40. Still waiting for my license to come back from DVLA. It really is luck of the draw. The problem is if you contest it by going to court, if you loose not only does the fine double but you have to pay the court fees as well. They may even slap 6 points on you instead of 3. I believe it's between 3 and 6 points at their discretion.
It sickens me because those money making offences, and I say money making as it's not road safety being slightly over by 10 or 20mph over the limit, that's just their excuse. It's not like you where speeding past a school as kids are coming out or something. Not only that they play on the beliefs that people will just pay up without a fight, as the threat is there of further penalties if proven wrong which 9 times out of 10 you going to be unless you can afford a very clever brief to fight your case and find a technicality that will get it thrown out of court. It's a loose loose, either pay the court or pay the brief.
The whole system stinks
one should be able to fight their case without the threat of further penalties. That in itself I believe is criminal. It's OK for the rich that can afford a legal team to fight their case but for most people this is not the case. So the rich get away with it and the rest of us suffer.
Oh and another thing that has annoyed me recently. I was told I had to hand my license in to the nik. The coppers asked which Police Station I wanted to hand it in to, so gave them my local. Went down there a few days later and the bloody thing was closed and no longer a 24h nik. You can never find a copper when you want one
Where have all the Stations gone
I gave up and went to another one where they accepted it.

I hate it when we get those letters
Don't think you will get the option of speed awareness course if you are 80 in a 50....... Only get them if you are about 10% over

Yes mate, it was a lovely hot day, perfectly clear and on a long straight road. Seems like a real money maker, especially how from the front of the van, it was impossible to tell it was a Police speed check van. It wasn't a deterrent at all.
But no it wasn't a 50, it was a 60 road, so doing 80 isn't that bad, it will only be 3 points at worst.

Thanks for the replies lads ,think I'm gonna rollover and let em shaft me,fiddler, fighting it will just cost me more,if only I had been pulled over would of stood my ground, them vans are the work of Satan himself, what kind of sad tossed sits in them allday anyway, maybe should offer him a pillion ride!
Re: camera van towton yorkshire
The speed is irrelevant. Whether it's an SP30 40 or 50 it's discretionary and between 3 and 6 points. So if one just pays up, yeh 3 points it is. But if one goes to court and the Magistrate has had a bad day and takes a dislike to you, then they are well within their rights to chuck 6 points at you.But no it wasn't a 50, it was a 60 road, so doing 80 isn't that bad, it will only be 3 points at worst.
