New Exhaust Sleeves
New Exhaust Sleeves
I have an old set of Art cans sitting in the garage that have a few dings on them. I had an old stainless sleeve from an old project that I never used and used it to re sleeved one of the Art cans last week just as an experiment.
I must say it looks good but it got me thinking would a Carbon sleeve be up to the job of a big V Twin pumping through it. Would it split the carbon over time?
I know Lloydie had issues with one of his cans splitting.
Anyway, pros and cons please and what would you choose.

Re: New Exhaust Sleeves
If I was to build some I would use some of that heat proof lagging on the inside of the carbon .
I also think a well packed carbon can will last years before it needs doing again .
But heed the warnings if the carbon sleaze starts getting hot it needs packing

Re: New Exhaust Sleeves
If the Carbon is properly fastened, with a metal band of some sort on both sides where it's riveted or bolted, and properly packed/repacked it will work just fine... But I'd say doing it as a DIY project though, I'd choose Stainless, it would be so much easier, without those pitfalls... Or perhaps aluminium, if you can swing that...
Re: New Exhaust Sleeves
What about Ti sleeves? I know PJ engineering list them but I have no idea of the cost.

Jaz could you not get the ti sleeves rolled again to remove the dents ?
Re: New Exhaust Sleeves
Now that is a question I don't have the answer too.lloydie wrote:Jaz could you not get the ti sleeves rolled again to remove the dents ?
Where would do such a thing and how much would it cost?

Re: New Exhaust Sleeves
Jazz, what was the idea behind using carbon sleeves rather than stainless steel
weight or looks?
Chris.

Re: New Exhaust Sleeves
Tbh weight isnt a consideration as I am of the larger build anyway.
Pretty much esthetics mate.
now have black front forks and a black lower and thought black zorsts might look nice.

Seeing as that's the case, and I don't know if this possible, but a carbon sleeve over the existing sleeve would be the best option,Jazzscot wrote:Tbh weight isnt a consideration as I am of the larger build anyway.
