SP1 Colours

Post by slower110 »

Evening all
A guy was telling me this afternoon that all sp1's were made in red/black colours for the uk....is this correct?
Reason I ask is mine's a 2001, registered as white from new and never had a colour change ( according to the hpi check ).
Just curious, any knowledge appreciated.

I can not imagine they would only produce one set of colours for the UK. I think someone might be trying to pull your leg but I am sure someone with more knowledge will let us all know.

Yes mine is Castrol colours, I'm just wondering whether it came out the factory in these colours or it arrived red & black in the crate and was re-spayed at the dealers before selling ??

They definitely did a Silver SP1, not many about but it was a standard uk colour, not sure about it being an anniversary one though, what anniversary would that have been ?. 1999 was the anniversary year.

MCN hints that it was the SP2 that came in Castrol colours

...the later Honda SP2 model, in its Castrol colours, is the one to have.

Mine is a different scheme to the sp2 Castrol one, I'll get a decent pic of it in the morning.
In the colour scheme thread Cheeky kev says all sp1's for the uk were red.

50th Anniversary of Honda

That was 1999, Sp1 wasn't made then.

Never was an anniversary SP... Was a tribute for Nicky Hayden though, in limited numbers... Dunno if that was sold in the UK though... Other than that, just the Silver and Red for the SP1 and White and Black for SP2 AFAIK... Could be wrong though...

Silver on the cbr 6, vtr sp1 and 929 blade was a limited run from 2001 for one year to mark the end of that model run,you can get late registered ones due to them being left on the shelf as the colour was not popular.
SP1s came in red and silver only, other colours were produced but only endorsed / licensed by Honda along with the
Castrol colours which were released to celebrate world superbike and TT successes of the time.
