Next Project: Benny's frame etc
Next Project: Benny's frame etc
I have put a bid on a couple of things like the frame and engine and been thinking about how to use them effectively if I win
As I need another project to run alongside the Ducafe Racer I thought I would build a VTR from scratch
Using Benny's frame as a start, plus the engine if I win it, and other bits as well
Would like trick up the looks a bit, but not the engine as I am happy with a standard engine
USD forks
VFR Single sided
Fireblade or other wheels
Modified subframe
Different rear end
Good paint job
That sort of thing
I reckon Benny would have been happy to see that happen
What do you guys think?

I think it's a real nice idea and I'm sure he will be looking down on you to lend a helping hand. Paint it White as well like Benny's old Storm. Maybe not a pure White but a Pearlecent a bit like the colour Snoogle done his bike so it's not so Stark. Add some Benny stickers and it will be like a tribute Storm. Everytime your at one of the Op Storms a little bit of Benny will be there as well.
The biggest issue you will have is the single sided Swingarm as you will have to move the shock over a little and fabricate the exhaust link pipes and end of header pipes. All the rest would be reasonably straight forward.

Re: Next Project: Benny's frame etc
good luck flatters, i hope you win the auction dude...
i love the sssa look on the storm, i do have some techinal data somewhere of how to do it, i was sent it by a senior forum member, i'm sure they'll be along shortly and they'll provide you with the same data.
i love the idea of a different rear seat unit. i love the gsxr 2005/6 onwards, not sure it would suit the storm tho, the more practise you get with fibreglassing the easier it will be to make something special.
as for usd front end, the blade is the sensible route but not the cheapest. the parts are quality tho and something inside of me says its better to stick to honda parts.....
its strange considering the amount of blades sold from 2000 to 2003 that the parts don't come up that often.
if i can help in any way with your build mate, i'd be glad to do so.....

A nice big fat 300 section car wheel on the sssa :-)
Re: Next Project: Benny's frame etc
on the issue of front ends. how about a zx7r front end. there easy to get a hold of and they are prob one of the best front ends the japs ever made..cheap to find. they run a 3 spoke wheel and with the six pots looked after the brakes are more than up to the job of stopping a storm.
the older i get,the faster i was

Re: Next Project: Benny's frame etc
Don't the zx7r have a ride hight adjuster instead of preload ?
Re: Next Project: Benny's frame etc
I would like to see someone fit some Aprillia stock Ohlins forks on a Storm. Not sure if it can be done or not or if anyone has tried it. I'm sure it's possible with some modifications maybe.

i have been looking into this over the last few months .cybercarl wrote:I would like to see someone fit some Aprillia stock Ohlins forks on a Storm. Not sure if it can be done or not or if anyone has tried it. I'm sure it's possible with some modifications maybe.

ive been watching ohlins forks and oz wheels on ebay to get an idea of how much the swap will likely cost .
the conclusion ive came to as to why it hasnt been done or only a few times is the cost ,
ohlins forks £600
oz wheels £600
yokes spindle and brakes £300
so £1500 for just wheels and fork swap

on the pluss side all the measurement for the front end are near enough the same as the early blade forks (fork length and travel )
a friend has a gen 1 rsvr.
Re: Next Project: Benny's frame etc
Keep your eye out and you can get the forks cheaper than 600. I'm sure a set went recently for about 300. I have been keeping an eye on them also as I have been checking out the Ohlins stuff recently. I think the average price is around 400-450 for the forks. Keep your eye out on the forks and from time to time there are bargains to be had.
