Performance upgrades?

Hey just wondering if i can give my firestorm a bit grunt? I bought my beloved vtr 8 months ago and I love it! It's not the quickest 1000 or the lightest, but its a great bike and the sound from the stumpy cans I put on it:) say no more:) just thinking if there's any recomended engine upgrades out there? hello and welcome .
yes there is many things you can do some free and some cheap but most cost a fortune .
suspension and breaks are the first place to start in my eyes .
then if you've had your carbs balanced recently and the engine serviced that is a good start ,
the best bang for your buck is a lighter flywheel as this really helps the motor spin up faster .
stick coils and good plugs are good too then it starts to get expensive =engine work pistons/cams and so on .

The more you spend the more you can squeeze out of it. Just be prepared to spend as much as buying another bike or more.

the usual route is a good exhaust, air filter and dyno time, some people use two long velocity stacks, this gives a little improvement to midrange oomph, other than that, make sure its well serviced, the better route to make you faster thru the bends is to sort out the suspension, good quality aftermarket rear shock and fitting newer springs to your forks, together with fresh oil, that will transform your handling.
tbh if you want another 20bhp you'd be better off buying an sp1......

Hey guys thanks very much for you input it's much appreciated, Im pretty over the top with servicing Im going to drop the oil and filter every 2-3k she's only covered 9k and I've changed the oil, filter, plugs, air filter, and it did make a difference to the running, the guy I bought it from only serviced it once and I got it on 7k, 53 plate and I payed £1800 bargain!! Im really chuffed with it shes a beast:) I haven't yet changed the cam chain tensioners apparently they are a common problem? do you guys think its a good idea to have it dyno tuned?

yep get it on a dyno to see what it is doing .
what air filter are you using and has a dyno jet kit been fitted ?

As priority replace the cam chain tensioners with something less self-destructive - and check the R/R isn't an unfinned self-cooking early version.

Get it dynoed as a baseline and esp If you have a free flowing exhaust can, so you can see where things are at - should be stock between 100–105 horsies

Once you have the basics done, (cans, air filter, carb kit) it depends on whether you are able to do your own engine work.
High comp pistons help a lot, airbox mods are cheap and easy, you can smooth out the ports and that helps, then it starts costing money- cams etc.

Getting one of these up to SP1 power costs you the same as part exing it against an SP1, so why do it the hard way?
