I used to be in the trade and knew Ali a bit, saw him fly loads! The scariest was the huge glider with a turbine pod on top that he would slow roll a few feet above the ground up the strip, it always looked like it was going in!
Budget storm gradually on the road to spangliness.

I would love a huge Typhoon. I so love those planes, unbelievable. What amazes me that it seems the RC's can make near enough the same manoeuvres as the real thing. To put this into perspective the real one I think has something like 13 different computers to keep it in the sky. or

Do the controllers have an altimeter and horizon. How the heck do they keep track of them in the clouds. 8O

Watched it last night on the bbc iplayer -James may toy story .

It was good and I enjoyed it , it was a shame they didn't chase the thermals to maintain hight on the crossing and using a Aulto pilot well :-( that's cheating ha ha

So do the controllers have an altimeter and digital horizon. How the heck do you fly them when they go out of sight.

No they don't . If you loose sight you loose the model .
Most radios have a very good range a mile or so . The hardest thing I found was when my 8f wing span glider was up high and traveling away I could tell what was the direction of travel ant a certain angle :-( and nearly lost it a few times .
I did loose it once in the clouds but I just dropped the nose till I could see it again .

:eek2 :eek2 :eek2 :eek2

I don't like the sound of that. I would want an Altimeter, horizon and compass, otherwise I would just loose it and not be able to see.

Oh yeah, sorry I was going to tell you more about that. It's a great little project though! I like the little model of James may, when it landed, the little boy said "look mummy it's the stupid one off TopGear'"! :D
