Front pads?? which/Why? dimemma

Post by Anotherbikerbabe »

Right lads and lasses.... After checking with Mr P who was a big vague about my renewal of my front brake pads (as in not done yet!) not that I feel I need them renewed as previous thread) It was my 'only' advisory end of June and I totally forgot about them until today 8O 8O

Speaking to another member this morning regarding this, he has given me some advice on Brembo ( pricey but worth it) and I also spied EBC ones for a full front set at £36 or so..

Need some that will give me say more to do with ride outs than every day wear n tear i.e maybe 700-800 miles a month or so..Depending on weather and where folks are going etc...

What have you got, why? and I don't wanna be a flashy git just want some good decent pads to do the job well and not dig too deep down into the pocket! Cos I want my seat recovered next and I have spent a bit on marras old bike since buying her including the Renegade high levels today with the help from of Agent/P.. oh and the real carbon gen cover..along with other bits of carbon and stuff and almost replaced all the bits that i'd put on my old VTR onto this one that weren't already on my wheelie wheelie nice bike.. :wink

So, front brake pads, what and why??? :confused I know I can rely on you lot and oh, if you know or have any on your watch list on ebay, link appreciated

Cheers peeps :cool2

Thanks for that, I may well buy those yet..I did see those this afternoon and put them in my watch list until I could get more info.. My Dave is a happy with stuff that 'does the job' whereas I am a bit more fussy, the plus side of spending is NOT having to explain away I spent HOW MUCH on bike parts when hubby is a biker ...bonus..

Wish I'd seen the post when that guy was flogging off pairs of Brembos for £15 job lot a while ago..grrrrrrrrrr.......

Had EBC and Goldfren in mine but by far the best (so far) have been the Brembos I am currently running.

Zcoo..... I have tried some top notch pads in the past including Vesrah RJL and SRJL-17 (the 17's are regarded by many as the best), Carbone Lorraine CL-60, HRC hard bite... and EBC HH..... the Zcoo's are tops.... not cheap, but you get what you pay for... extremely powerful, but with a soft feel and very easy to modulate.... they work in the wet too and don't need heat to work.... having tried them, I can't see myself using anything else......

As I understood it, the Brembo pads are more suited to track use or fast road, I think you need to build up quite a bit of heat in them for them to be very effective. From what I have read the EBC HH ones will work better for the road unless you're going fast. I can't remember where I read it now though, it was when I was changing my pads last month, I was reading about different compounds for the track and road. I went for the HH ones in the end as I only had 1 more track day booked and will be selling the bike soon.

They do a road and a race pad. The race ones are twice the price and silver and the Red ones are for street use.

Mucho Grassarse guys..I'll look into some of those in detail. I have some of the best Welsh roads right on my doorstep which are in places challenging, some straight stretches for speed and a lot of long sweepers.. HH sounds good... I'm 'splurging atm and want my seat done' too
