Seat Cowl/Hump

Post by Troutman »

I bought this from ebay recently and it came yesterday, couldn't wait to get it on the bike as I think these really finish the bike off. Anyway after opening it up I was convinced the colour was not quite the same as mine. ( it does look the same on ebay)

Update: My colour is Middy Blue code: B162M

Took it down to the shed to offer it up but I was right, it's not the same colour, it's more like purple!

Looks like I either sell it on or get it resprayed in my colour, which is the dark metallic blue from 2000. Can't remember the name off hand but I have the code somewhere.
Honda want £80 for seat cowl in your colour. I have already spent £20! then paint cost...

I have recently come to the conclusion that ebay is good for certain things that are precisely what you are looking for. Any deviation or doubt, then I think you either need to see the thing or leave it.
Colour, condition , size , all need to be spot on to make it work, and the postage costs now really make it less of a bargain site.
Do you take the seat strap off to fit these and bolt them on using the strap bolts or do you leave the strap on and share the bolts? Also what are those 2 shaped metal bars under the seat for?

yes leave the strap and bolts on mate, they just slide over for easy on/off.

I wrapped mine in carbon fibre wrap, very easy to do and looks good.

There should be two luggage strap points under the seat if that's what you mean, they unclip & swing out so that when you put the seat back on they stick out to give you something to attach bungees to.

Yes the seat cover just clips on, I have taken the strap off mine a/ coz it looks better. b/ as by removing the hooks as well it makes getting the seat on & off much, much easier...Some on here say that removing the hooks is bad as the seat is not secure but I've never had an issue with it & if you really want you can remove the strap & keep the hooks.

I hate that when purchasing something and it is not what you think it was. You have been mislead by the listing, bad or clever photo/s and the temptation to buy. The thing is it is such a pain in the back end to send it back as an item not as described and the sellers know this and take advantage. Unfortunately there is a lot of this that goes on with private sales. There's also a fair bit with commercial sales but they are not so blatant and will fill they listing with jargon about terms and conditions etc or advertisement of other products in their shop. Best to ignore all that crap and get straight to the nitty gritty if there is much of it, otherwise look elsewhere.

For future reference if buying anything that is painted it's best to get the seller to take a picture of it outside in daylight not inside with or without a Flash. Better still see it on the bike so you can then colour and shade match. I like the way the seller has sat it on a Purple background to try and disguise it. You can see it's more Purple than Blue on the top in the centre but your brain fools you into thinking it's reflected off the background. It's all an illusion.

Yeah it's weird cos it doesn't look like it's been resprayed yet I don't think that was a Firestorm colour. I have fitted it on the bike with everyone's help and from the back you wouldn't know but when you look at it from above or the side it's a totally different colour. Pain in the but..should have just gone to Honda and got a new one.

Those little bars I worked out! But am I right in saying you couldn't use them with the hump fitted?

Ebay is "based" in Luxembourg and pays virtually no corp tax or VAT into the UK economy. I have been told.!

You going to strap things on top of the hump ?

I want to but it has to be something shaped like a pudding bowl and I really can't think of why I would need to do that.
Anyway you can't use the hooks so it doesn't matter. :?
