Snetterton this weekend 21/22nd.

Post by popkat »

Hi all, last round of the season for me. Well it's been a seasons travelling and not much racing  Just getting the bike back together after the Donington crash and engine expire, barrels and pistons off another engine, swapped oil pumps as there was a possible problem there, will get it fired up tomorrow and if all ok repair the fairing mounts pop a new tyre on and take her for a little naughty spin up the road :shh:

If anyone fancies coming along I'll see you there, look for a very beaten up Suzuki Katana #34

I might be there Saturday as my brother belongs to the CRMC and will be there with his son for the weekend.
David (his son) will I assume be on his Honda K4 350 and Chris (my brother) could be on any thing :D :D
He races in the back of the field on some strange machines some times.
Triumph 500cc engined Antig framed bike maybe, or a 686cc 8 valve weslake triumph in another odd framed bike. He's more interested in who make the frames and rairly ride a "normal" framed bike.

Good luck and I have a great time.

Actually I felt more safer on the track racing than on the road even when I crashed at Lydden Hill and gave my self a massive internal bleeding injury.
Run off areas, low sides, no one pulling out and no one coming the other way helped :D
Only time I felt scared way on the odd "Parade Laps" one a day at the CRMC meetings in the past.
Any thing from a 50cc to a 1,200cc bike with experts and novices all together, nothing like a parade at all.........
I remember Brands Hatch at the Festival of a 1000 Bike one year.
Poodling around on my 500cc Norton Dominator with drum brakes (So no brakes really) coming in to Paddock hill corner, I looked around and no one is behind me :D next thing some Japa full on race bike appears by my side, cuts to the corner lent over, brakes on, going from 130mph + to the 40mph I might have been doing, I have no brakes left and so I rolled off the throttle and closed my eyes waiting for the enviable coming together, nano seconds later I open my eyes and he's gone out of the corner on full throttle.

Never been so scared on on a track before, so I gave up parades and went racing with the club instead :D , at least we were all on the same spec of bikes going about the same speeds with the same no brakes drum brakes.....

Be safe and have fun.

That was the final meeting of the season and there's no tale of woe to tell

Saturday was the last round of the championship with 2 races both of which I won :D Although I wasn't happy with the bike, i'd fitted new pads and wasn't getting much feel at the lever, they were taking ages to bed in, also I think I was lacking a bit of confidence in the bike (and myself) after all the recent troubles and offs.

Sunday. For the last day of the season they have "race of the year" which is a longer race for each class with podiums, trophy's, laurels etc. I won that too :D :D bike was better as i'd adjusted the brake lever for more travel (=feel) and I was feeling better on it, better lap times too.
I also competed in the race of aces trophy race which is open to all classes, so proper race bikes unlike my production spec bike. Qualifying was first thing Sunday morning, it was damp and misty and I rode crap, just couldn't get in the swing of it in the conditions, too late to bed Saturday night maybe  ended up starting 19th on the grid  I should have really been a few places higher. The race was my last one of the weekend and it was dry, sunny and very warm, got a cracking start and made up loads of places into the first corner, settled into a good four way, then 3 way battle, the bike directly in front then lost his chain at the bomb hole (it flew right past me 8O ) which left me against a superbike spec Kawasaki GPZ, the thing was much faster down to straights but I had the bit between my teeth by then and passed him in Coram on the last lap then held it to take 8th place overall, well happy with that on a proddy bike :D

Don't know what i'm doing for next season, I'm hoping i'll get the same ride as this year to have a proper crack at the championship but the bikes owner hasn't said anything yet, although I have asked, will just have to wait and see.

What a great way to end the season. I think that last race is a bloody excellent position to come in considering you was up against faster and better bikes. You should be well chuffed

Cheers
They wrote that the other guy had slightly better lap times but that wasn't the case as I got the lap record at Donington, I mentioned it to the PS guy at Snett and he apologised and said he didn't realise. rightly so

Also at Snett I got Production rider of the meeting, so I get a years subscription to PS for that :D I'll cancel the one I've already got now and save a few quid.
