dont leave your bike on tarmac....

Post by callam_nffc »

My bike sank through some bloody hot tarmac yesterday and went over :(

luckily only minor scratches to the exhaust and this on the left hand side upper fairing..

Luckily its really small, but I'm gonna have to get it filled/repainted somewhere hopefully not costing too much

Hope you didn't damage the pavement too much

I saw a pan european do the same thing when I was at a dealers, asked the other customers if it was anyone's but luckily (?) it was the dealers demo bike.

Bikes are so easily damaged, I'm forever catching mine on the gates or shed doors.

I learnt a while back at a summer cricket game when my bike went tipsy on heat softened tarmac and landed mid-game on a parked car, which saved it from going completely over.

Get a plastic stand support pad fingy http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MOTORCYCLE-BI ... 1160483793

I drilled a hole in it and tied a length of string to it, and keep it in my tankbag or jacket. Then just toss it down and use my foot to get it in place for the stand, and when departing use the string whilst sitting on the bike to pull it back up.

Handy also for parking on awkward gravel, grass and bare earth surfaces.

Tricky as its near the decal, and the yellow will be hard to perfectly match. Fiddly but with careful masking, prep with fine filler and blending in with a small airbrush I'm sure it can be done - though cost of repairing could be a good proportion of a new panel.

How much is a new panel roughly wicky? May be the easier option I guess

Bought a brand new XV250s back in the 90s which was bloody expensive, got it out the showroom, went home opened the gates, turned round bike laying on its side, side stand melted into road and bike went down.

Now that WAS gutting. :D

Last time David Silvers had fairing panels they were about £175 (Lings are quoting £270+)

A rough & ready tidy could be done with some fine surface filler, wet&dry and some humbrol touch up paint... (Touch up paint > http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... ol#p267562 )
