I'm choking!!!

Post by VTRgirl »

Seem to have got to the stage of needing the choke to start every time. Idle speed seems fine, so what's the problem?

Thanks Yella, but I think that sounds like a different problem. I never have any trouble actually starting the bike, providing the choke is out a little. It's basically as though the bike thinks it's mid-winter every day & just needs that extra boost.

Winter or summer my storm won't run when started unless I have the choke out for a while. Could be as little as 30 seconds in the summer!

dont use the choke on my hardly at all, Hondas are generally good at not needing choke, could be that the mornings tend to be a bit damp this time of year could you be getting any damp in the plugs?

Hi VTR girl,

Have you had it jetted?? When I first had my jetted I had problems getting the fuel up to it when first starting the bike and had to use the choke. Had them adjusted and all was fine.
I notice that even now, if I don't ride it for a week, (shocking I know!!! but it happens sometimes 8) ), I have to use the choke to get it going first up for about 10 secs and then its okay. But if I ride each day just a short press on the starter and its up and running. This has only started since I had the jetting done.

I figure I've either just waffled on for a bit here, not enough coffee this morning, and also what sort of job doesn't let you drink beer at your desk escapes me, or I may have helped. Either, or, have a great day. :D

Thanks Nathan! Sounds like you're having a great day  . Haven't had it jetted... yet... so maybe I've got the reverse problem & when I do it'll go away... Just bought some cans on ebay, so after I've had them put on and a K&N filter, I'll do the dynojet thing & maybe all will be sweeeet. Here's hoping! 8)

No probs,

I found that I had to do the Dynajet kit and the K&N together as the bike was running just too lean with the K&N and the pipes, obviously. Took a bit to get it sorted out how I wanted them, but once they were done it made a great improvement. The only strange thing I've noticed since jetting it is the slow starting after a week of sitting, like I said before and that the carbs seem to go out of sync quicker now. Might just be that I'm paying more attention to them now. 8O

Maybe you just need your carbs adjusted????

Have fun :D

You might be able to guess by now, but I wouldn't know what carbs are (apart from short for carburettors... unless you mean potatoes... )

I do appreciate the advice though & will pass it on to my fix-my-bike guy. Three cheers for Al!
