Airbox, how does it breath ?

Post by roadrun_fr »

How does a VTR breath with its snorkel without any hole down ?
The plastic plate under the snorkel is a little strange ....
I'm completetely stock (airbox, top cover, airfilter, etc ...) French 2001 Model

Does the VTR breath warm air thats flows between the engine and airbox ?

Is it your configuration ?
Could you please tell me your country/year model ?

i took my bike to get it set up on a dyno, its a 2002 F02 model(UK).
the guy said the same thing when he took the lid off the air box, couldn't believe the set up, the snorkel breathes in warm air in the well at the front of the box.
he ended up taking out the two frame inserts that are at the top of your picture, with the small screws holding them in. got a 3HP gain straight away with the extra air intake this allowed.

my bike is completely stock (bought new).
are you speaking about left and right plastic pieces ?
There are in place....

Do you compare dynos with and without these pieces ?

3 extra HP ? How many HP do you have ? at the wheel ?

there are two tri-angular shaped pieces of plastic standing vertically in the frame running from the headstock aft.
they are either side of the plastic plate under the snorkel that you mention.
after a set up on the dyno, with a K&N filter and jet kit fitted i get 109HP at the weel. that is with a set of Quill T3 road legal end cans. i'm getting a set of Blue Flame evo twin spout cans this week and will be fitting them soon, might run it on the dyno again and see what differance they make.

OK ;-)
Have you the same plastic piece just under the snorkel ?
I mean "the square between the two little holes" ?

Why do you think Honda has put the left and right pieces ?
Warmer hair to prevent "Carbs icing" ?
Protection against water ?
Restriction ?

What about older models ?

I do not, in any way, intend to cause offence. The fact that this site is International is brilliant, even if that does mean that Australians can access it  I hate bloody cricket but I'm following it to make sure we stuff them and get retribution for them introducing Fosters, which in my day was a gentlemen's outfitters.

Anyhow, the "warmer hair" for the carburettors did make I larf!

Don't think you can hide in here stratman with your anarchist comments about Australians   mate I hate Fosters as well and the only good thing about it is that we got rid of the horrible stuff and sent it overseas. it's rare to get it here now and that is a wonderful thing. You can keep it, we don't want it back. I wouldn't clean concrete with it. :D

it was all done at the same time, when the guy opened the airbox to get at the carbs it was the first thing he saw, after the first run to set up an intial set of graph curves.

have got an email from a canadian guy... He removed the two pieces but he replaced them because the performance was worse.
He tells me that these plastics are 'Heat Guards' that prevents to suck warm air !
Which is just the opposite we thought before ....
