Shear bolt anger!

Post by Jamoi »

Currently sat in my garage surrounded by broken tools, a very knackered right arm and a feeling of self pitty!

I'm trying to get the shear bolts out which hold the ignition barrel in. I've drilled down into them about 15mm deep, and beveled the top brass bit of the bolt, and I still can't get the damn thing apart!!!

Any suggestions before I start crying?

12mm drill bit . Drill down 5mm then the top just falls off :-) or if you no longer need the top yoke get a angle grinder out with a cutting disc and cut in 3mm above the lock base job done

Thanks Lloydie, I'll pick up a new 12mm bit tomorrow as all mine are now blunt despite using cutting fluid :(

I've moved on to re-routing cables etc now, as I don't want to look at that damn top yoke again tonight!

Angle grinder sounds good to me :biggrin You could try slotting the top and undoing them. If your going to use a drill you need Cobalt drill bits.

Thanks Carl, will pick a new cobalt 12mm.

I might whip out the angle grinder, just for the fun of it, it's a bit late now... bloomin' neighbours :(

Pleased with the top yoke though :)

To the floor!

They're actually standard height, but without the stock clip-ons on top of the yoke there's a lot of fork tube sticking out!

Ging500, I'm a "manboy" despite my ultra tough exterior...

I thought you'd have guessed when we met, I'm a massive pansy! Can't wait to try the new bars out, should be good for reducing front tyre wear :)

To get the shear bolts out of My original yokes when I changed to 929 forks I just used a chisel and hammer and we'll... Smashed them around.
