Top yoke conversion problem
Re: Top yoke conversion problem
Good work Jamie, didn't take you too long.
You might want to either drop the forks or lift the back end a bit to put more weight on the front end now you are sitting more upright... I put another 1mm spacer under the back of mine and dropped 3mm onthe front and feels better, will put another 1mm under the back for next test

Jamie, I don't know if you spotted that the brake hose that goes backwards also goes round the inside of the forks, helps keep it out of the way of the throttle cables.
But I will be taking the return cable off as I think lloydie is correct on this

Re: Top yoke conversion problem
When I did mine i got Hel to make me the following: Long 790mm, Short 740mm. If I were to get new lines I would go for 800mm for the Long side as this will make it a tad neater. Hope this helps.sirch345 wrote:You chaps are really tempting me again![]()

Any idea what length brake hoses you end up getting(just in case
)

Cheers mate, I'll certainly look into getting a spacer under the shock, probably when I get a new one.
The turn-in feels really quick now, probably because I'm giving the wide bars a good shove and hanging off like a monkey!
The front does feel slightly vague or light so maybe raising the rear & dropping the front a fraction will tip a bit more weight on to the front?

Re: Top yoke conversion problem
After a little test or so at the weekend, I think if I did go for this conversion I will need a different double bubble screen, as I found with the more upright riding position the wind hit my crash helmet a lot more at speed.AMCQ46 wrote:You know you want to chrissirch345 wrote:You chaps are really tempting me again![]()

Many thanks Darkember for the measurments and advise on the brake hosesdarkember wrote:When I did mine i got Hel to make me the following: Long 790mm, Short 740mm. I thought yours looked neatly fitted already,

Re: Top yoke conversion problem
I'm tempted to go back to clip-ons to be honest! I find it has taken the weight off my wrists which is really nice but, my back aches after 30mins or so! Whereas before my wrists would ache after 4hrs but my back would be fine.
Plus, when pressing on it just feels a bit odd being upright
Just in case you go for this conversion, I'd recommend taking your required brake hose measurements to a hose shop & they should be able to make you exactly what you need with equal if not superior quality braided hose, stainless gubins while you wait. Probably for half price of the branded gear from Hel, Galfer, goodridge, so on.

Re: Top yoke conversion problem
Jamoi, may be you need to give yourself more time to adjust to the new riding position. My advise would be to stick with it for a reasonable length of time first.
It's all about how much traffic is about down here for me (to whether or not I do this mod), at the weekend it was not that bad. The traffic had thinned out to what it was like in the summer holiday season.
Thanks for the tip about getting someone local to make up the brake hoses.
Chris.

Re: Top yoke conversion problem
bloody kids , cant make thier minds up and want everything today
i agree with chris that you should give it a bit of time to get used to it, but i dont remember my back hurting, but I have rearsets and a slightly taller seat as well, so it will end up being your personal choice on what is and isnt comfortable.
All I know is that I have done 7 hr sessions on the bike since fitting the flat bars, and I know I wouldnt have enjoyed that with the clipons
and as for pressing on............I wouldnt know about that

Thanks Chris, I will stick with it for a bit, perhaps I'll make another assessment after I've sent my forks off to Rodger & got a fork brace etc.sirch345 wrote:Jamoi, may be you need to give yourself more time to adjust to the new riding position.

I think the back ache is due to me hunching up in an attempt to get my head back to the position I'm used to, possibly also the hard rear shock is shooting the bumps straight up my spine instead of spread out? Dunno!
I'll see how it goes for a bit, sort my suspension out and see if there's an improvement.
Dual controls would be perfect!

Re: Top yoke conversion problem
I used to suffer saw wrists but I solved that problem with a quick action throttle and the later modal Storm clip-ons. It's funny how the body adjusts to things. I used to find riding around on my Fazer the most comfortable thing. When I get on it now it feels very strange and not so comfortable as I am now used to the riding position on the Storm.

Re: Top yoke conversion problem
I think the later model Storm clip-ons must make quite a big difference though, I'm used to riding my hornet with Renthal Ultra-Lows now (was on Lows until about.. 2-3 months ago?) and I find the storm the most comfortable bike I've ever been on. On my dads' Sprint ST/Mille or brothers VFR 800 (haven't had a go on his midget Yamaha yetcybercarl wrote:I used to suffer saw wrists but I solved that problem with a quick action throttle and the later modal Storm clip-ons. If you go back to clip ons in a bit Jamie, try them. If you come to the track day I'll let you have a sits and feels of them

Or can do it when I next visit Essex in a couple o' months
