Plasti Dip on bike wheels
Plasti Dip on bike wheels
Plasti dip, any one used this on their wheels, given ive never done any spraying i dont fancy trying to lern how to paint properly with conventional paints
been thinking about trying this stuff for ages, and you can peel it off too, goes on like paint and it dries like a vinyl
want to do the gixxer wheels white but don't want to have to send them somewhere or make a mess with normal paints my self

Re: Plasti Dip on bike wheels
Certainly looks interesting. My concern would by how easy does it peal/flake? I shall keep my eye on this as I shall have a pair of wheel to get painted at the end of the month

Re: Plasti Dip on bike wheels
Why not just make some with a 3D printer?
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
Re: Plasti Dip on bike wheels
how many cans would you need for a pair of wheels ???
wouldn't it get scraped off every time you have tyres fitted ect ???

Re: Plasti Dip on bike wheels
that's a good point, but given how easy it is to do you could have a change of colours after every new set of tires lolDiabolus wrote:how many cans would you need for a pair of wheels ???

Re: Plasti Dip on bike wheels
ive painted my front wheel to match rear price 15 pounds
5 layers of paint and 5 laquer
changed tyres and no chips so im pleased with result
i would advise plastidip for fairings not wheels as you would end up doing it every week as even the smalest fly will upset the dip

Aha you know what it is black and yellow...black and yellow !!!
Re: Plasti Dip on bike wheels
With Plastic Dip you'd need to keep it off the inside of the rim where the Tyre seats.
Theres A Hare in The Turnips.
Re: Plasti Dip on bike wheels
what do you mean the smallest fly will upset the dip? it sets and turns into basically a vinyl wrap when it setsgabi81 wrote:ive painted my front wheel to match rear price 15 pounds

apparently its really good and lasts very well, a lot of the gsxr guys use it to do theirs in the white
generally you do it with the tires on just tape up the tread, then you cut off what you dont want with a blade it peels off like a tough wrap

Re: Plasti Dip on bike wheels
dont believe it for a second
show bikes maybe....but on the road a different story
even powder coating gets the odd bang from little stones on road or whatnot but with vinyl emmm not as much
resistance and under temperature and rest the vinyl changes from soft to rockhard in seconds which also aids cracks and splits...in short the weather here is a gamble when it comes to things like that
like all painting jobs the prep must be spot on and is it really worth it?
i wouldnt have it done like that i would rather powder coat or paint them myself

Re: Plasti Dip on bike wheels
I've got to agree, I can't see it lasting very long. Two pack epoxy resin paint is what I will be gong for if I do my wheels. I fancy some fluorescent Yellow or Green wheels.
