Starter motor would not turn, which is why thought electrical/ motor/ wire/ignition/battery
Sometimes it would turn over and start, othertime nothing, lights and horn worked though
I recently bought a VTR 1000. Started first time every time for first month.
Went tos tart it on Wed and absolutely no life in battery. Borrowed trickle charger from mate and after 8 hours horribble clicking noise from rear of bike when pressing starter button.
After 24 hours it started no problem. went short run and put it back in garage.
Next day, same horrible clicking noise from rear of bike. Back on trickle charge and after 10 hours it tries briefly to turn bike over but then goes back to clicking.
Thought the guy I bought it off said it was new battery and there is some evidence that the starter motor has been stripped.
Could it be rectifier/regulator?
Help!!!!!

I would put a multi-meter across the battery terminals after checking that the connections on the battery are good (clean and tight) to see what volts you are getting, check before starting, then when charging (may need to rev it a little) and also when charging see what the out put is with the lights turned on.
Another thing that has caused problems for some is the connection of the heavy lead going to the starter-motor at the front of the engine, there's a little rubber cap covering the connecting bolt just pull that back and have a look but be careful what you are doing there as that bolt is not available as a separate item from Honda
