how do i work out miles per hour

Post by stu9000 »

just got back from a bike trip.
want to work out my average miles per hour.

Of course if im doing 60 miles in 60 mins
my average speed is 60 miles per hour.

BUT :?: :?:

If I did 87 miles in 40 mins that would be a faster average mph speed  8O

what formula can i use to work out the average speed????

Oh, and yes I know im being a bit of a train spotter but ive just ridden 1164 miles of the best corners in wales and ireland and tonite, this is all im good for.

Err..

If I did 87 miles in 40 mins

87 / 40 = 2.175 miles per minute

2.175 * 60 = 135.5 miles per hour...
surely not

Not bad Stu... Just a tad off. Right formula though. Divide by 40 to get miles per minute (2.175) then multiply by 60 to get miles per hour. Comes to 130.5, not 135.5 (probably just a typo there...). That's about 217km/h (I think...). Niiiiiice! 8)
If you ate yourself would you become twice as big or simply disappear?
