Hey All,
well I picked it up today, got extremely wet on ride back.
How would I describe it, v twin 2 stroke, the fuel mapping is a little off at low rpm, it really dont like going slow,it hunts, wanting to go. but once you get a open bit of road and open that throttle, and yes i did in the wet, and scared myself a few time, it pulls, pulls harder the more you rev it, illegal speeds are hit very quickly. riding position is rather relax, no problems with my back at all, it coughs occasionally at low rpm same as the storm does.
its a bit of a wolf in sheeps clothing, wants to be ridden fast!

Ah nice one mate, it is one bike on my 'Want List' The Rotax engine sound like a bit of a gem and I'm sure once the fuel is sorted it'll be even more of a pleasure to ride

took it for a proper spin today, as it was a bit dryer, all I can say is it needs a quick shifter, I struggled to shift it quick enough, it steams on, 2nd gear with no effort its breaking the national speed limit, you let it rock on and its scary quick, rides like a 2 stroke.
and believe it or not it uses the same tech as the storm, swing arm is bolted to back of engine, frame set up is very similar to a storm other than the fuels in the frame, seating position is actually really laid back.
the clutch set up is odd, slipper clutch with vacuum assist.
same as storm wing mirrors are crap, upto say 30 can see ok, then give up above that speed.
As for the 8 piston rim mounted disc, christ you have to be really careful, it can over power the front tyre, its got diablo corsa's on it but I still managed to over power them a couple of times today, had the back end break out coming out of a s bend hard, while playing with a R1, so traction control would have been nice lol
That front fairing may be ugly but, it works a treat, deflects air away really well and also rain water quiet well, head lights are excellent.
standard exhaust is a nice note aswell.
Belt seems to be some where between shaft drive and chain.
Only upgrades I would make is to the front master cylinder and clutch mc, both are a common upgrade, Brembo radial or Nissin radial, and posibbly a stearing damper or there is a adjustable trail kit.
Im setting up the suspension at moment, fully adjustable front and back, you can flick it around with so much ease, turning circle is crap, more like a Harley in that respect lol
I will sort out some photos shortly, once ive got this silly grin off my face..... and stop for a breather with camera.

yep, Erics back in business as EBR Eric buell racing, theres a online forum for buells just like the storm one.
HD are supporting them for 10 years from 2010 so thats at least 2020.
EBR is now doing his own parts, but you have to get them from state side, new bikes to follow soon I believe
Black Bear harley brought up a load of spares, theres a buell specialist in the netherlands that did the same, along with a number of other Harley dealers over here and in europe.
Trojan horse over here do aftermarket parts, from Rizoma, gilles, vance and hines, remus, oberon, rsv the list goes on.

they still have a big following state side, and would appear over here aswell

id like a xb9. i have looked at one that was for sale on bike trader in a light blue colour but was always a bit worried about spares for them etc so thats good to know that its ok.

Having had said Buell for a few weeks now, I decided to stick it in for a service with my local Harley shop,I know them well as had 4 Buells from them over the years.
Went in for a general service, valve clearances were checked and adjusted, oil and filter change, new spark plugs, coolant drained and replaced, brake and clutch fluid changed, head stock bearings check and wheel bearings aswell.
Clutch is still crap lol which from looking on the buell forum is a common thing, they recommend uprating both clutch and brake m/c to Radial brembos m/c's which I'm looking at
Bembo RCS19, I know Nissin do something similar, just got to work out what bikes have what m/c's and ill hunt one down as not paying 299 quid for a master cylinder!
put it this way ride home woke me up, completely different animal, got on this straight, nice bit of road thought i'll give it some, yeah hello 1st nice and easy, wanged it into 2nd and wound the throttle open looked at speedo and 105 mph and it still wanted to go, still had 2000 rpm to go so up into 3rd and its still climbing like a looney, at that point my butt was eating the seat so i backed off and the roads where still a little damp and it was trying to spin back wheel, no traction control!
Couple of days later had another play and the engine spins so quick, I have to shift very quickly, first 4 gears on a go for it launch and its almost bang, bang, bang, worrying thing is the bike wants you to use it hard, I'm still not giving it the full beans yet!
Ive ridden all sorts in the past, Stan \stevens blue print rgv's, yoshimura prepared gsxr's, gsxr1100 drag bike, Aprilla RSVR's.......... and this thing is mental, I cant think of anything to compare it to, fuelling low down is ruff but so are most other v twin sports bikes, test rode a 1198 before the Buell and that was as rough as hell at low rpm.
As for the silly grin thats from ear to ear, I've taken all the badges off and it pulls a crowd at the local bike meets! ain't many about

yes mate and the riding position allows me to ride a while before back kicks off, I'm hunting for a garage at moment so I can sort out the storm, get the clutch basket bearing sorted and gonna keep storm to got with Buell, want to try them back to back and do a proper comparisoncybercarl wrote:I do like the pic from the front. Shouldn't the panniers be on the back of the bike rather than the front like that?
Why ask... sometime you just go to do it and find out?
