breaking storm 1999 (gauging interest)
Just thinking about breaking my 99 storm for spares as I know Im not going to get a lot for it as a whole .Bike is in good running condition 30k on the clock used every day for 2 years but not a lot of use since getting my RSV. Just seeing if it might be better breaking it up

Re: breaking storm 1999 (gauging interest)
breaking the bike will be a fair bit of work, and you will always be left with a large pile of spares that you didnt sell, also if the bike is bog stock, you have less interest.
Someone like Seb can give you an idea of what he managed to sell the parts for and how mich time it took stripping and shipping [although he had some desirable extras that made it worth stripping]

yes think I will try and sell it whole first / trade it in lol

Re: breaking storm 1999 (gauging interest)
I bought my complete but very doggy '99 bike (45k mileage) for £750 - reckon you'd get the same for a complete one on Ebay. Would you manage more than that by breaking it - possibly, but like others say it's a lot of work.
I'm so unlucky that if there is such a thing as re-incarnation I'll come back as me!
Re: breaking storm 1999 (gauging interest)
It's not a lot of work !
It is a lot of aggro...
You could have it completely stripped in a day if you put your mind to it.
Then you have to clean & then store all the bits, advertise them, pack & post ect ect & your bound to end up with bits left over.
If you can sell the engine quickly that's your main worry. Your next worry is what's it worth ? I've recently sold a 26k engine for £350.
Then what are you going to do with the frame ?
It's a safe bet to say that most Storm owners already have a frame so why would you want another ?
Stick it on e-bay & sell it as a runner, just be realistic with you expectations of price.

I agree
sell it as it is, give it a good clean, write up some decent blurb, and you'll get anywhere between £800 to a £1000 depending on condition..
if you get more its a bonus.....
good luck with it buddy.

Re: breaking storm 1999 (gauging interest)
Totally agree. And with the engine you have a choice of selling complete or strip down and sell the parts individually. You would get more but it will take longer, much longer, to sell the parts. I'm not sure how eBay traders do it, but they re-list again and again and again over months. With a personal eBay account IIRC you only get one free listing if something does not sell, so there are listing fees to consider. It's not a lot of work !
It is a lot of aggro...
Breaking a bike you will earn more but it will be over a long period of time and in bits and drabs.
