For a cheap fix I'd use the silver as the base and add lumps of colour route, maybe a TT legends scheme with the silver replacing the white.

at one stage I was going to get my bike painted white, so as kev says, you can add numerous decals sets to the white base, Castrol, tt legends, hydrex.....

Cheers for the ideas, however I'm stupid and have ordered a small sheet of vinyl to see how tricky it is! :)

Well, that's a start of a plan at least... And keep in mind, making a uniform wrap over a full surface is usually more tricky than adding vinyl decals like suggested above, since as long as you get them visually lined up, a millimeter or so off is virtually unnoticeable across two adjacent things with the frame in between, like the fairing and tank, and when not doing the full surface you get a bit more wriggle room to smooth out your wrinkles, as the edges can move a little...

Good points there Tweety, I mainly just want to change the colour of the bike, rather than any kind of race rep or multi sticker type design. Even if I end up with a seam down the middle I'll be pleased.

I'll post my results, good or bad!

good luck mate, your going to need it..........
having said that, the new 4d bubble free wrap is easier to use than previous types of vinyl wrap, the main problem will be the fuel tank. choose a easy piece to start with i'd suggest the headlight surround. get used to using the vinyl, heres what I learnt.
always cut the piece of vinyl a fair bit bigger that what you will need, theres nothing worse than getting to the end of a piece of fairing and finding out you cut it to xmall
start in the middle and work outwards.
use a heat gun or hairdryer when you need to do tricky corners/edges/shapes
buy the best quality vinyl you can afford.
buy a very sharp craft knife for the tricky cuts.
if you go for a carbon weave effect, make sure you line the pattern up, otherwise it will look naff.
prick any air bubbles with a pin/craft knife and work the air out.
make sure the surface is clean to begin with.
don't pull to hard on the vinyl as it will tear.
that's all I can think of for now.

I used a sharpened sponge & a set of plastic round end scissors as I'm not aloud near anything sharper.

But that would be a bodge as you supposed to have pushed the air out beforehand.

A hypodermic needle would be good for this as you could suck the air out, I do this with blisters.

A pin prick, and a dab with the heat gun as you work the air out, and it's impossible to spot afterwards... Haven't tried the hypodermic needle trick really, so can't say on that...

Jamie, my idea was you could go for a totally own color scheme, not a race rep scheme... Just make it multicolor, or large shapes, and you get a few seams that are part of the design, not flaws... Like the tank, my instincts say doing that in one piece like AP says, would be horrible... Doing it in say tho parts, for instance a wing design on a backing color, and another color, would probably be feasible even for a newbie (like me!)...

Thing is, I've already got my heart set on a colour and im only after one solid colour all over, my number boards are as elaborate as I go!

I really don't mind having a seam here or there, it'll only get scratched by panniers or scuffed by the tarmac anyway, there's some multi coloured schemes I like, but I prefer to be Mr Stealth....

Thanks AP for your tips! I know it won't be easy but, will be fun trying!

the problem with getting bike wheels dipped is that you need to dip both sides, I had one wheel priced at £100 because of that. I like the idea of the whole bike being dipped in winter camo colours tho....
